I got a very quick look today at what I believe is a Mod 19-2. The serial # is K714XXX and it is stamped inside the cylinder yoke where the model # usually is. I consulted my copy of the Standard Catalog of S&W and it seems that it was mfg in 1966, but the lack of model # inside is throwing me off. Is this what I think it is?
BTW, if I remember correctly, it had target grips (can't remember a diamond insert), blued ramp front sight (no red), extra nice finish...maybe too nice for a 40 year old revolver, and 3-screws. The shop is asking $350. Thanks for your help!

Many errors have been observed with S&W model number stampings. Some guns have the wrong number and some have none when one should be present. It's so common that it's not a big deal. Misstamped model numbers don't hurt or enhance value to most folks. They just happen.

Your analysis sounds right to me as well. The defining serial of a S&W is on the butt of the gun. If it matches, you got it right. $350 would be a little high around here, but may be about right in your neck of the woods.
