OK - I've been trying to find an answer on this I for a while and keep getting different responses. I'm going nuts!!. I want to take a G17L and add a longer barrel (16"-18"?), (I do know they are made just very hard to find, and I know I need a stronger/modified recoil spring!) a removable rear stock, and a scope mount and scope. I have actually started this project thats why I got nervous when I was told it would be illegal! Considered a SBR or more? Even if I only want long, legal length barrel? I am willing to do whatever nessary to finish the project legally. Lincenses, permits, whatever. I just need to know how and a place to find a barrel and I already have a place to buy the stock easially. Which confuses me because this is a reputiable company and from what I have been told thats the part that makes it illegal? If anyone knows how I can accomplish this - as well as where I can find the barrel? (I also found a Austrian version that uses a special threaded barrel that will let a longer barrel connect to it, but I believe there may have been more to it, and would that be illegal? PLEASE HELP ME!!!! Thank You! -SMOKES- [email protected]
P.S.: I am know of the Mech Tech carbine and am not to intrested and the Longer barrel can be found in "The Complete Glock Guide Refrence Guide" on page #188 next to the Mech Tech. -Smokes-

I am not a expert on the law and stuff but I belive as long as you have the stock attached ONLY when the long barrel is on and in conforms to rifle length laws you should be fine. I not see how yours is diffrent then the mech tech carbine or a tc contener rifle.

Info

Thanks for the info and if you have more or know where I can go to find laws just dealing with this subject and not for every gun law made, that would be most appriciated. - Just want to stay legal but love customizing Glocks and for making long 9mm shots is fun to. Thanks -Smokes-

BATF---they are in the phone book in any major city, and can be found on the net.:)

If you like barbed wire motels, ignore what they tell you.:uhoh:

You will be changing the operation of this gun, and there are serious doubts about IF it gun will work with a 16" barrel.

Suggest you talk to a good gunsmith.:scrutiny:

Free advice, buy a 9MM carbine, or wait for Glock to bring one out.:D

This is a very tricky problem due to physics:

In all browning action style guns (such as Glocks) the barrel must tilt up slightly after the bullet leaves the muzzle to cycle properly. Addin weight to the end of the barrel makes this difficult. This same problem has long plagued the silencer industry. The solution is to add a recoil enhancing device, such as Gemtech's LID (linear inertial decoupler). It uses a gas piston of sorts to relieve the barrel of weight at the moment of firing. While the weight is lifted, the gun can cycle normally. Recent advances in lightweight silencers have helped the situation, but only a few, such as the GemTech Blackside, are available.

I believe the Glock 16" barrel kit used such a system. The problem is that the kit was made for the G17 with the standard slide length. No such kit exists for the 17L (I have a 17L and looked before deciding that it wasn't worth my time or money).

My advice, buy a 9mm carbine. I have heard mixed reviews about the MechTech. I was interested when I first heard about them, but after seeing and handling one, my interest turned elsewhere. I've never fired one, but they are quite heavy, and somewhat cumbersome IMO.

ETA: I just checked the Impulse Barrels site listed above. They do use some sort of LID type device, and they seem to have a model for almost every Glock, including the 17L. I don't know how to order, you'll have to check the site.

check out the Glock forum , Im sure someone has the answer

I'm sure 100 people there have the answer, and none of them will be the right answer.
