You wake up in the bedroom of your home in Liberty, FSA (Free States of America - no ATF, no gun laws). You thank the Creator for bringing you to this day and hurriedly dress because today is Independance Day and you are participating in the Annual Freedom Shoot.

You load the car with your tools for the event and on your way you stop by your favorite gun shop. Oddly, there are 2 semi-trucks parked out front emblazoned with the word "LeMat" . Without another thought about them you proceed in.

After purchasing a couple cases of cartridges, you turn to leave. You are approached by a man saying, "You have been selected as todays winner!"

The man goes on to explain that he is a representative from the newly refounded LeMat Firearms company.

As todays winner, you may order a free weapon from them, it will be produced in the mobile factory out front and delivered to you this afternoon with no strings attached.

Though the originals were percussion and .31/28GA, or .35,.36,.42, or .44/18ga, you may order any combination of modern chamberings and any modern gun metal and finish. The originals came in 2 sizes of pistol and a carbine but you may order the barrels as long or short as you want and the grips, stock or other accessories will be added to your specifications.

What do you order and for what do you intend to use it? If you were not the winner but overheard the conversation, would you be tempted to buy such a thing if the price was reasonable and you could also specify what you wanted?

OK I'll bite...

Caliber .308/7.62 NATO.

Gas Action Semi Automatic. Somewhat Like the Robinson copy of the Stoner design, piston driven like the AK and FAL. Bolt would be halfway between the AK's two lugs, and the AR's 8, four or five lugs, to keep lock time short, but facilitate some semblance of sanity while cleaning the chamber.

Fire Control/lower reciever would be AR style in mag loading, and ergonomics. but like the Robinson, the upper can be flipped upside down with a conversion feed for Bren-style top mag, or belt fed for an LMG role.

Pistol grip, FAL Para style folding stock. All exposed metal Tennifered like Glock, then parkerized, then given a dark grey moly-resin paint coat. Synthetic furniture, with a Surefire forend light with momentary press pad switch.

20" barrel to maximize velocity. Stuff that's sub 16" in major rifle calibers are toys, with the exception for use as entry weapons, IMO.

Integral Picatinny rail on top when bottom mag fed in the carbine role.

The whole thing would be sort of like the Daewoo K2/DR200 in .308, with AR lower ergonomics and mag changes, but the upper would be flippable for the LMG role like the Robinson.

If optics are included, I'd want the 4X ACOG for .308.

I'll try to whip one of those up for you AJ, but thats not quite what I had in mind, my fault. See my new and improved post, scribble me a line or two?
 
If they were free?

Id have trouble choosing. Id like:

.44/16ga pistol rubber laser grip for my home defense backup,
.357/20ga pistol for the Mrs,
a .22mag/.410ga pistol just to make the above seem more like a set,
a .410/ 45/70 or .410/12ga longarm would be handy for hunting this area,
some turkey guys might like a .223/3" 12 longarm,
a .22lr/20ga walnut checker longarm - handy for various small game...
 
I keep getting tempted to order oneof the black powder versions. Im still trying to find some justification beyond "gee thats cool". If i had a ton of money i wouldnt even need that much justification. But, if the money wasnt an issue and i could buy one in a modern chambering i think i would go with a nice .357/20gauge. Pretty compatable with what i own and i DO NOT want to fire twelve gauge from a pistol.
 
Hmm...

.357/20ga sounds good. Damascus steel. Could you NP3 Damascus without hiding the cool layers? Carbon fiber grips - hey, I gotta try to squeeze a little tacticality out of it!

I'd probably sell the thing off and use the money to buy something else. :scrutiny:
 
Are you "revolver guys" to begin with or is it just interesting enough to get you to consider it despite your preference for autos?
