I have in my safe a 1970's Winchester 94 given to me by my father...who is not a hunter. The poor gun has sat in his closet for years being neither cleaned nor preserved.

I'd like to get the rifle reworked -- refinished, cleaned inside & out, and some trigger work done.

Who do you recommend to do this kind of work? Know of any '94 experts in TX?

Thanks!
Rich

70s Winchester 94

Richard I know that this 94 has sentimental value but the cost to reblue and have trigger work done would likely be the cost if not more than the 94's worth. There are not a lot of post 64 to eighties 94s that are worth much. Not only the Model 70 but also the Model 94 in 1964 went down in quality with the 94 actually more so than the 70. The 1964 revision of the 94 actually had a cast receiver, after this some had a black finish not blued that would sort of peel off and would be impossible to refinish. By the middle seventies improvements had started to be made. The Big Bores 94s brought back the forged receiver from what I remember. But rifles have importance often beyond their market vaue and you might take Old Time's advise and go on over to Levergun.com. Brownell's sells a product called Oxpho-Blue which is a cold rust product which may be exactly what you are lookiing for,
