Does anyone have this combination that they could try together? It seems as if this compensator might be ideal for the short barrel of the plr-16. I have spent a couple hours searching for information on the effectiveness of the Levang and haven't found anything terribly helpful.

I just got my plr-16 yesterday and can't wait to start accessorizing it. I think it would be a decent home defense gun if the Levang really does direct a significant amount of sound energy forward. I do keep a set of Peltor electronic hearing protectors on the night stand. I would also be interested in its flash suppressing abilities.

If no one gets back to me I just may have to go ahead and get it and let you all know. :)

I don't know anything about the Levang.
I bought a Phantom and was amazed by the flash reduction.

A couple days ago I accidentally forgot my ear muffs and shot the PLR (outside). I believe there is some amount of noise reduction with the Phantom because even though it was loud, I've had my ears stung worse by a 1911 on a cold morning.

Thanks M2 Carbine, your post is one of the inspirations for my wanting a flash reducer. I am considering the Phantom, but I am also interested in the Levang.

I have a PLR and a levang, but I haven't shot it much yet, it's new, too. ;)
It seems to deflect the blast and noise downrange.
Makes the gun more mellow to shoot. It's pretty large, about an inch by 2 or so. (It's in the safe so I'm guessing.) You will need to devise a way to tighten it, I made a wrench at work that fits the front holes. The Levang seems to be machined out of a piece of round stock, it must have been tricky to make.
Hope this helps.

I just went with the short DPMS flash supressor on mine. Not enough recoil to need a brake and it's already loud enough.
