I'm about to perform one of these tests on a lightweight version of the standard M240B barrel. Hopefully I'll get a tunnel this week.

My question is whether anyone else has seen or done something like this before. The M240 is 7.62mm, but any feedback on rifle calibers would be helpful and appreciated.

There will be 2 tests. One with a projectile shoved in right in front of the chamber, the other with the back of the projectile right in front of the gas port. The whole gun will be in an armored box and fired with a tether.

Thanks,
Labinnac

Doing a little destructive testing is part of the design process. I have to admit its the most fun part of the project. Shooting and breaking stuff is a perk.

So that's why. :D

I have yet to break a receiver, the one we use for drop tests came close. I've broken top covers, heat shields, and buttstocks, though. I did bend the charging handle but that was a rework fix.

If you want to have fun, reload the 7.62 ammo with 41 gr of Bullseye instead of 4895. That should skew your results ;)

IMO, Labinnac has THE best job in the world.

Well, maybe one of the best. I'm sure working as a tester for HK would be pretty cool too.

Bah!

I'd quit in a heartbeat if I were offered the same money to drink beer and watch girls in bikinis all day...

Seriously, I think that Playboy photographer would be the best job in the world. But getting payed to play with guns all day is pretty cool too.

Labinnac - I knew a guy named Glenn that worked up at FN for a while. I think he quit though - said there was too much paperwork. Know him?
