hello, my friends. this is my first post, just registered on this forum :)

i wanted your opinions on something.

my friend is offering me a barely used kimber tactical ultra II for $750 (maybe 300 rounds at the most, mint condition).

or i also like the springer EMP 9mm for about a grand brand new.

which one would you guys go for, and why?

thank you for your help

Having owned both, and having dumped my Kimbers for their inability to function reliably and their tendency to rust unless submerged in Breakfree, I heartily recommend the Springfield loaded.

Mine has been 100% reliable out of the box, and is a tack driver. Good luck with your decision! TJ

Between the Kimber and a 9mm Springfield: Kimber
Between the Kimber and a .45 ACP Springfield: probably Springfield
Given a wider choice: S&W SW1911PD

I have been tempted by the EMP but I much prefer .45 over 9mm.

1) You were "limp wristing."
2) You need to fire more rounds.
3) You were using faulty ammo; probably reloads.
4) You did something to make the gun malfunction.

Did I miss any of the standard CS responses?

I've never owned an EMP, so I'll leave those comments to others.

I've owned two Kimbers and will never let another 1000 dollar+ handgun that unreliable to find it's way into my safe.

I have owned a Springfield GI 1911 and a full size XD .45. The finish was a little weak on the GI model, but I was a new handgun owner at the time and may not have serviced it properly. Both were reliable.

Daddy always said " If it's got tits or tires sooner or later it's going to give you trouble".

There is no one size fits all in anything! If those are your only two choices, my advice would be to buy new with a warranty and not buy used and someone else s problems. People just don't sell things they are happy with normally.

That's my 2 cents worth!

I'd just like to say my Kimber Custom TLE II has been 100%. Had it for a few years now and have tried to put it in some testing conditions, all of which have resulted in it being my most reliable handgun (even over my S&W 442!)

Springfield, excellent quality and an incredible lifetime warranty......Nice to have even if you want need it.

I don't like Kimbers for numerous reasons.

I have 2 Kimbers both awesome!!! Also have springer< shoots low< constant jams< several trips to smiths, just cant get it to function. YMMV Thx

I vote for the EMP. They can have a tight chamber, so make sure to check reloads in a case gauge, or the bbl to be sure they will cycle. I reloaded a ton of mixed range brass and had a few FTF's. With sorting the reloads and checking in the gauge or bbl, or with virgin brass or factory ammo, no issues. I love the feel of this piece!

I have both and my vote goes to Kimber. Just so much smoother and more accurate in my hands. I can understand why Springfield has a good following because I bought one.

lol i noticed a couple people mentioned that i should get a springer loaded, nice gun for sure, but i'm not asking about that one at all--read my original post. :)

most responses so far are not in favore of kimber. i've never been a fan of kimber, and never considered one before this deal came around. i know about their QC issues, and don't like their swartz safety either.

the kimber tactical ultra II in question has had only 300 hundred rounds through it, i wonder if it's possible for any probs to pop up suddenly at a higher round count with these guns, despite being reliable for the first few hundred. that's what concerns me.

if it works good though, it would be the deal of the decade at $750 (brand new about $1,200).

i do like that little emp 9mm, just don't like the price!

hmm decisions, decisions...

Springfield TRP (best overall value on a 1911 other than a Dan Wesson PM7)

Search for threads on problems with Kimbers and it will help answer your question.

Pick one , buy it, shoot it. IF it's a pos get something else. Manufacturing anything has issues once pride in craftsmanship goes the way of the Dodo.

This principle works for guns, boats , trucks, cars, blenders and hammers too.

My Kimber works, Springers I've had worked too, some guns I've had didn't, YMMV.

I don't own a Springfield, so I can't say anything about them one way or the other.
I do own five Kimbers.
I own a lot of guns that would make good carry guns. I chose the Kimber over everything else.

I have a Tactical Ultra II. I'd buy another one in a second for $750.
