Armed with all the good info I have gleaned on this board, I headed to my gun club to test my POA/POI. I set up news print targets with a mark in the center and fired from 25 yards (improved modified choke). I mounted the gun and shot 4 times - all low and to the right. I then mounted the gun as per the mounting 101 instructions and shot 3 more targets. One was dead on. Two were centered horizontally but high. I am right handed and left eye dominant. I shoot left. The one thing I did differently in mounting the gun was lift my shooting elbow to 90 degrees. I went home and mounted my gun in front of a mirror. If my shooting elbow was 45 degrees my barrel veared slightly to my right. If I bring my elbow to 90 degrees the barrel lines up perfectly to my left eye. Does this make any sense? I also think my length of pull is too short (14.25") as I am 6'1" with 36" sleave length and huge paws. I am going to hook up with gunsmith for some help with my stock. Anyhow, thanks for everyone's help here.

Makes sense to me. Raising that elbow changes the slant of the cup, thus slightly changing where it's pointing.

We're about the same height and sleeve length. FYI, the stock on my TB has been spacered to 15 3/4" or so. Works for me and gets the drop right for shooting in a heads up position. YMMV.

Do shoot some clays and see how they break for you. That's the step past using the patterning board.

Keep us posted, thanks....

Would you recommend an adjustable butt plate or spacers to increase my length of pull?

Morgan adjustable is an option, ugly to some (me) but pretty to others. I happened to use one on a 303.They work and allow adjustability- right off the target  The minimag flashlight in the barrel is great practice/exercise for mounting. Minimag light in barrel and hip to shoulder all the while trying to keep the light on a stationary point, I use the corner of the room where the ceiling meets 2 walls. Gets me to do the proper cheek weld, something I get rather lazy about while shooting.

Steve, an adjustable butt assembly like the Morgan will not lengthen LOP unless you're replacing something of less length. Spacers will help if you need less than an inch. And probably that will work for you.

Conventional wisdom sayeth that trap shooters can get away with very long stocks because the shot angles are not acute.Skeeters like stocks somewhat longer than on field guns and the black BDU guys like short pulls on their blinged up repeaters.

I don't think there's a perfect length for all things shotgun. I do think most of us can benefit from some adjustment.

Make sure your shotgun is unloaded, then...

Mount your shotgun. There should be a finger or two's width between your thumb's base and your schnozz.

Next, focus on a point on the wall with your shotgun down. Close your eyes, mount and open your eyes. If your shotgun points to the spot you were focussed on, it fits well enough. Repeat this a couple times to be sure.

HTH....
