CAPAC, Mich. (AP) - A small-town police chief and a sheriff's deputy were shot Wednesday when they confronted a careless driver who ran into a house, and authorities launched a manhunt for the shooter.

Capac Police Chief Raymond Hawks and the deputy were shot at by someone inside the house, St. Clair County sheriff's spokesman Gary Albrecht said.

State Police Sgt. Craig Nyeholt said Hawks had stopped a male driver for careless or reckless driving in Capac.

The motorist ran into a nearby house, and the chief called for backup and a tow truck. The motorist came out of the house and shot the chief twice and a deputy, then went back inside, Nyeholt said.

"They've got the area locked down and they're trying to find him," Nyeholt said. "He's not in custody at this point."

The sergeant said the deputy was "in really good shape" and the chief was responding to emergency crews in an ambulance. He couldn't provide any other details on their medical conditions.

Albrecht said a school in the area was locked down but only for a short time

My friend, Just because a news story has a shooting in it, doesn't make it "gun related" in the context of The High Road. What makes this particular story remarkable?

My God,the scrutiny now extends to the great Valley of the Sun.
It's not political is it Wayne? The AP thought it deserved nationwide attention.
I won't ask you to get a life.
That would be rhetorical.:D

Personal attacks are not called for.

Well, go ahead, then. Might as well find every wire story with a shooting in it, and post it here. Knock yourself out.

Who started this? There are certainly some Michigan members who would have interest.
Is this better,Wayne?
CNN Headline News reported today that 32 protesters lay down in front of the Supreme Court for 3 minutes, the time they say it takes to buy a handgun at a "unregulated gun show",whatever that is.
This. even though the killer Cho, bought his guns legally at a Virginia gun shop.
Is there any hope for these people, both CNN and these out of touch protesters?

It will be interesting to know who's house this guy ran into, how they knew him...and what the heck he was up to?

You're putting lipstick on a pig.

I think this topic is pertinent.
It shows that BG's can strike anywhere, anytime against police or plain old so called civilians in the smallest of so called safe towns.
And some pigs do look a lot better with lipstick.:)

Well the point is that though it might not in of itself be gun related, or High Road related at first glance, it's an indication of what the media is doing in this country in relation to guns.

This is a small news story frankly, but it's national news because guns were involved. It will likely make the evening TV network news.

If these 2 officers had been killed in a car wreck on the way to the same incident you wouldn't be reading about it would you? Of course not.

That the press wants to make sure the world hears of every gun incident, on the anniversary of the VA Tech thing especially, is telling.

Dang! Let's leave the pigs outta this...they aren't to blame. ;)

Okay. It's hitting the news here. With guys like the one channel 7 interviewed (he graduated with him), we don't need "antis".

His concept, "He ain't no 'gun-nut'! He's never asked me about my collection."

Think before we speak to the media. :banghead:

There. That's all the info anyone could ever hope to have. Three highly biased news channels.

What do you have against Podunk? :p

Btw is your name a reference to the Christopher Moore book

Nothing against Podunk!
And no,my handle originates from my CB times as a truck driver in the 1970's and '80's.
A lot of out west driving and the call of the coyote ringing across the Arizona and New Mexico landscape.
Call it Picasso,modern.:)

IMO it is gun related, it belongs here, and I can't even believe the thread being started was even called into question.

I think that the concern is that we seem to start a new thread every time there is a shooting in the news. After a while, I kinda start to wonder why we feel compelled to do that.

Well the point is that though it might not in of itself be gun related, or High Road related at first glance, it's an indication of what the media is doing in this country in relation to guns.
And I have no quarrel with that notion in general. I just wonder how much of the posting in this thread is really coming at it from that direction, and how much interest is really just morbid fascination, and how much is it a chance to use the death of two folk to beat our chests over how we would never allow such a thing to happen to us.

Dunno. Maybe I'm just too tired to think well.

I like reading about a lot of these stories. There are not always lessons to be learned due to scant facts, but those show up in other articles often.

Maybe we need some sort of In The News forum. :)

I agree 100%.But then again ,I'm prejudiced.:)

Am I the only one that's been to Capac?

The locals say it's short for "Cows And Pigs And Chickens."

What was that about lipstick on a pig? I took interest in this thread mostly because of the location.

If we're not careful, we might hem ourselves out of anything to talk about being too strict about "gun related."

highorder~

My view on this incident is this.

A HR member can bring this story to our attention - OR - the Brady Bunch will.

I prefer reading about it here by a fellow member where I can at least find some resemblance of the truth in the story versus that which the Brady Gang spews over these incidents.

Chris

Yeah, I've been there... It's about 40 miles from here. Sneeze and you'll miss it...

Just heard on the news, The perp was caught around 1:00 am, and the two officers will be OK.
