NYPD, first and largest dept in the country, issued the Glock 19 for years; still do AFAIK.
NYPD allows its officers to choose from the Glock 19, Smith 5946, and Sig P226 DAO for duty carry. IIRC, off duty/ back-up options include the Smith 3914 (or 3953) , Sig P239, Glock 26.They used to autherize the Kahr as well.NYPD, first and largest dept in the country, issued the Glock 19 for years; still do AFAIK.
Academy issue is Glock 22's now, from what I have read. Beretta 92's are still autherized for individual purchase/ duty use. I have read that LAPD does autherize Glock .45 ACP models (and 9's as well) for personal purchase, too. 1911s are only for SWAT, SIS, and possibly other special officers.LAPD is the largest, and they still issue 9mm beretta's, although officers can choose to carry their own 1911's too.

The reason they allow the 9mm is because some officers have difficulty qualifying with the larger calibers.

I'm a LEO in Maine, I can carry what I want. I just replaced my old 9mm Beretta Cougar with a new S&W 1911 9mm Pro Series.
