Well bogie, you certainly like to paint with a broad brush, careful you don't get any on yourself.

As for wanna-be players here on the board, I don't know since I don't know anyone here personally. As for young wanna-be's, you missed that mark on me. As for me becoming the victim because I'm no more prepared than those victims we are talking about, EEEhhhhhh, wrong again.

I'm fifty, I started shooting and studying martial arts at an early age. I've been an MP, I spent a bit of time tromping through the jungle with the special forces, and I've seen more than my share of bad guys since I got out of the army. I also spent four years in Central Florida as a volunteer EMT (including a stint as the chief of the volunteer ambulance squad), and I've seen my share of trauma, both the accidental and on purpose types.

As for educating people, I do so at every opportunity. In fact, I'm going to be taking a friend's daughter to the range to teach her how to shoot (she's twelve). Mom and dad will also be coming along "to mostly watch". However, I've got mom and dad's attention enough that they have asked me to recommend and good home defense weapon (I am going to get them to purchase a Mossberg 12 gauge and teach them how to use it, as well as teaching them to use both my 9mm and my wife's .380).

I've also been teaching women's self defense classes off and on for many years. I never make any personal profit from those classes (I charge only enough to spread the cost of the facility out over the class, and have often put my own money out of pocket).

I've taught law enforcement disarming and control techniques that will allow them to take down and control a suspect without fear of finding a hidden weapon the hard way (safe for the officer, not necessarily the perp).

I have trained dogs to do nearly anything you can think of in a law enforcement or protection situations - from personal protection to sniffing out drugs and bombs. I never charge John/Jane Q. Public to teach their dogs basic obedience, or even more advanced work, though I did have a hair dresser offer to cut my hair in gratitude for teaching her to train her dog.

I talk to people until I am blue in the face about safety and/or guns, and personal protection. At what point do I meet your criteria for having done enough to educate?

There are some people who absolutely refuse to be educated. Either they believe the radical crap that the left-wingers spout, or they simply say that life is so precious they would never harm another human being. If they are absolutely convinced that Big Brother will protect them, or some bad guy's life is more valuable than their own, so be it. I'm tired of trying to convince them otherwise, even though some of my friends think this way. They are cannon fodder, and that is the end of the argument! Talking is doing no good and all I can do now is lead by example.

I personally have been shot, shot at, robbed at gun point in my younger days, thwarted a probable home invasion with pistol in hand, seen a lot, lift weights run miles and miles at a time for conditioning.

I also recently moved to a semi-bad neighborhood where a heroin dealer was arrested right above me, and two buildings away another one was also arrested. In fact, 6 dealers in a two block radius from where I live were raided. And countless addicts were also busted.

I know I for one am at the ready with a pistol in arms reach or ight on my hip. Rifle ready to go nearby as well...
