ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A motorist who cursed at a police officer in an unmarked car was arrested after being pulled over by the officer, who discovered that the vehicle was stolen, authorities said.

Allentown police Lt. Dwight Steidel said he was driving an unmarked police cruiser at about 11:30 p.m. Friday when he stopped at a red light behind a silver sport utility vehicle.

When the light turned green, the SUV driver did not move and continued talking to someone standing on the sidewalk, Steidel said.

"I rolled down my window and told him to move or pull over," Steidel stated in his report. "He immediately began to curse at me. I believe he did not know I was a police officer."

The SUV driver, identified by police as Rico Cordero of Allentown, had his license suspended and the 2003 SUV he was driving had been stolen in Bethlehem, police said.

After his arrest, authorities said, Cordero was searched at police headquarters and was in possession of cocaine and a large amount of cash.

He was charged with drug possession, possession with intent to deliver, receiving stolen property and driving with a suspended license, police spokesman Daryl Hendricks said.

Cordero was sent to Lehigh County Prison and was being held on $100,000 bail, Hendricks said.

Good Police work, or violation of Civil Rights/Privacy?

Violation of privacy? Uhm, no.

Roads are meant for driving on. If you stop in the middle of one, or at an intersection, and aren't flowing with traffic, something's weird. When asked to pull over to the side and you get abusive about it, something's weird about you.

So... makes sense that the officer would check things out further.

Sure enough, suspended license, stolen car, posession of cocaine. Given his "I'm Superman" like reply I'd hope they get a drugtest to see if he might have been under the influence of coke while driving.

I don't think the officer was pulling the guy over in telling him to "move or pull over." I took it to mean that he was telling the guy to either move with traffic or pull to the side of the road where he wasn't blocking traffic. I think the cop did a good job. I see way too many ???????s like this guy around here, and a lot of the time, cops seem like they could care less

Hey, why you want to bother Rico when he be in the middle of a good conversation?

And in the middle of the street?

Huh? Say Wha'? Stolen Car? Hey, don't be botherin' Rico 'bout that stuff, a car is a car...

Wha' you mean suspended license? Rico be above the law!

Now don't bother Rico, he gots a good story goin' wid' 'da Homey there....  :banghead:

What a F-ING champ. He deserved exactly what he got, and I don't think the police officer was at all out of line.

Yelling at a cop (or anyone for that matter) in a stolen SUV, withought a license. Yeah, ???? him.

How is this relivant to THR, other than another good cop doing his job and taking a dirtbag off the street?

If the cop had arrested the guy simply for cursing? Yeah, that's a problem.

If, as a result of the guy's loud mouth and erratic driving the cop did a vehicle license check and found the SUV was reported stole, Rico needs to know when to keep his trap shut.

No, no violation of privacy OR civil rights.

Just a violation of Irwin's Rule No. 1 -- Don't be a :cuss:ing moron.
