Recently a saw a cable TV show about the training of police cadets.

I think it was called "The Elite."

In the show, they had a police cadet repeat the "10 Officer Safety Rules."

I only remember, for example, "always watch the hands," "do a proper search," etc.

Does anyone have a link to the complete list of police officer safety rules?

Thanks.

Just for fun ;) :

1. Never get caught 'cooping'.

2. Never get caught with 'unauthorized' backups.

3. Never get caught with 'unauthorized' rounds.

4. Never stop the (Chief's, Mayor's, Councilman's) (fill in the blank) car for speeding.

5. Never get caught taking 'gratuities' from grateful merchants.

6. Don't get caught eating at expensive restaurants. (May be construed as evidence of taking 'gratuities').

7. No more than three 'marked' cars in the doughnut shop lot at a time.

8. Traffic stops are not 'Dates 'R Us'.

9. Don't get caught with a dirty gun. (Read this any way you want).

10. Don't visit the Sarge's house unless he is home.

Seriously, wait a minute. I was going to say I didn't see the show. But now that I think about it, I have heard most of the above on the street, at one time or another, in various forms. .

Maybe it's not so funny.

Of the ten rules, six are not "Don't do X", but "Don't get caught doing X."

BTW, there is one particular township PD here that violates rule 7 nightly. In fact, Dunkin' Donuts has built an entire new shop right down the road from One Police Plaza* to handle the volume. :neener:

* (I'm not kidding, that's the actual address than the chief hung on the place! It is not NYPD, it's a very average township in central NJ.)
