I was browsing Buds a few days ago trying to find a snubbie to get my mother for Christmas when I happed across some police trade in S&W Model 10s

Im thinking about getting one for my father for his Christmas, it will defineately be a shooter, he also kinda likes that worn look to. I was hoping to get some opinions on whether this may be a good buy or not as I have little experience with revolvers. Is this a good price or what? Should I expect any problems with it? Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Police guns are carried a lot and shot a little. They are about the greatest bargain on the market.

I was real close to ordering one of those, but I was dissuaded by the reviews. Look under the square butt reviews and you'll find a couple of the most recent reviews (from this batch) say they are pretty beat up.

If you decide to get one, please post pictures for the rest of us. It's a good price if they are decent. I could live with a lot of bluing loss, but I don't want to see pitting for that money.

I bought a sort of beat up Military & Police (Pre Model 10) not long ago for a little more than that. It had some flecks of rust on it, and a rusted spot on the muzzle where it had been holster worn at some point. Sort of rough looking, but it looked lonely. (It looked worse than the one in the add.)

A couple of hours with a tube of flitz and a old T-shirt, and while it doesn't look like new, it sure looks a lot better. There was life under all that dirt.

whether this may be a good buy or not

Looks like a deal to me.

The Model 10 is about as good a revolver as there is. Stoked with 38+P ammo, it's potent enough for any self defense situation you're ever likely to encounter. It's what I keep loaded and ready for home defense.
