I found one for 170$. It's a bunch of old Polish replacement parts put together into a kit. I thought about buying it due to its low price. Are Polish made PPSH-41's any good? And does it having non-matching serial number parts affect how it works?

The kits are cheap, but completing it into a working semi auto firearm is not. The 41 is an advanced build, unlike the AK. It requires welding and some other machining skills. You can buy receiver repair sections (if your kit has any of the old receiver stubs included) or a complete receiver, which of course will be much more expensive. Oh yeah, you need 922(r) compliance parts, too. There's at least one vendor selling a completed one for just under $800... it could actually be cheaper than trying to build one yourself if you've never done anything like this before.

I would highly recommend you head over to the Weapons Guild forum and read posts. There is a subforum dedicated to this gun, you will learn a lot that will help you make a decision.

Thanks for the help.
I never welded before, and know barley anything about these guns. I should probably just use that money to buy something I know more about, like a hunting rifle.

I concur on both points - a PPSh41 is not a good starter build, and Weapons Guild is an excellent resource to check out. If you want to buy a cheap kit to build into a working semiauto at some point, I would suggest a Suomi m/31 or KP44. They are both cheaper kits and easier projects than a PPSh.
