I want to polish the barrel hood on my RIA 1911 Tactical. It has about 500 rounds through her and the hood is looking a little worn. I've read about using sandpaper and rouges but never really got a definitive answer. I believe the barrel is parkerized. Also, can I polish the whole barrel? I plan on duracoating the gun and possibly throwing a little clear coat on the barrel to keep it from rusting. Any suggestions?

I use Mothers Mag and Aluminum Wheel Polish, from Autozone. Sit in front of the TV and polish away. 30-45 minutes it looks great. The more you polish it the more mirror like it will get. Easy. Cheap. Looks great.

No clear. Not on the barrel. Don't polish the whole barrel, it won't help anything and could make thngs worse.

Polish the hood (chamber area) with some 320 grit paper and oil, use a shoe-shine motion.
