I am wondering, is it a good idea to polish one's CCW piece? Does polishing a pistol with Flitz or any other compound give any extra benefit? Once you start polishing a pistol must you do so every so often since polishes are usually abrasive and may invite rust?

My CCW pistol is a stainless steel 1911 that is exposed to a lot of dust, rain, sweat, mud and drastic temperature variations due to the nature of my work. So I'm wondering if polishing it up would give it extra protection or is it just something I should stay away from. Thanks

Other than looks I don't see any benefit. I wax all my carry pistols even SS .
I removed grips on a new Kimber to clean before fireing and found lots of rust. So much for SS easy to care for No rust on my blue pistols. That rust also made sure I never buy another Kimber. Never had a Colt or Dan Wesson come pre rusted.
