I know there are lots of BP cleaning questions on here, but here is what I have found. I was always one to cringe at the the thought of water on my firearms, so I clean my 58 Rem with either Eez-Ox or T/C bore cleaner. Last range day, I cleaned with the Thompsons, scrubbing very well in the cylinders and bore. I dried the cylinders with a rolled paper towel, and the towel kept coming out with residue. So, I said to myself, "self, try what the old timers say to do...try that hot soapy water." So I did, and scrubbed as usual. I rinsed with fresh water, dried thouroughly with towel and guess what! NO powder residue. I mean that thing was pristine! She was still pretty warm, so I coated all parts with bore butter and wiped the excess off after 30 minutes or so. It works, no rust, and was pretty quick.
Regards, Hez.

Using Palmolive to bathe your household pets will kill every flea graveyard dead.

To stay on thread, soap (I guess you could use Palmolive) and scalding hot water works great for muzzle loaders. With the scalding hot water, the black powder fouling is softened and easily removed.

Just my .02,
