I have a Stevens 775 16ga that I am considering trading. It has an un-ribbed 26" barrel with a polychoke fitted. The barrel is marked as being originally a modified choke. I know the chokes are almost impossible to remove & that once removed, threading the barrel for tubes is pretty expensive.
Does anyone have any experience with cutting off just the choke & leaving the barrel as is?
Would it still be a Modified choke, or would cutting ½" off the end open the pattern right up?
Does anyone possible have or know where I could maybe get a replacement barrel? I've tried Brownells, Gunparts etc... with no luck at all :(

If I could get rid of the carbuncle, I'd be less inclined to part with it! I dislike semi autos, having grown up shooting SxS guns, but this thing fits me soooo perfectly.

If it has had a polychoke fitted to it the factory choking has already been removed. You can't cut any amount (even less than the .5" you are proposing) of the barrel off of a scattergun without at the very least disrupting the choke. It costs around $125.00 to get a barrel threaded for internal tubes and if the gun fits you as well as you say it does this might be your best bet if you are unhappy with the polychoke.
