A local shop has a good condition Polytech AKS-762 with thumbhole polymer stock, thirty-round magazine, and folding bipod for $900. I'm not sure whether or not it is officially pre-ban, but will find out. Is this a fair price? If not, what should my target price be? (Aside from $0. :) )

It's worth $250 to $400 depending on your taste. These are PolyTech receivers and parts kits assembled in the US with Choate stocks. They were sold a few years ago to finish up on the stock of parts that had come in after the Chinese weapons ban and before the parts ban. After the import ban that made thumbhole stocks mandatory, Polytech guns and Norinco guns have no value difference. It is not preban. It is not a Polytech AKS despite what markings it has on it. The gun store is trying to rip somebody off.

To further clarify, the above weapon is the AKS-762 of which you would want to pay around $900 bucks. It's pre-ban as evidenced by its stocks, front sight block with bayonet lug, folding bayonet, etc. The below weapon is nothing more than a Mak-90 that happens to be made with a receiver salvaged from the good-ole PolyTech days. Hope this helps. The below photo was scavanged from an auction that ended with a $405 selling price if that gives you any indication. DON'T BUY IT! If you want a high-quality gun and want to spend that money, you can buy an Arsenal USA gun for around $600 bucks and have it high-polish chromed or Titanium Gold Plated for the price this thief is charging!

Thanks, you just saved me a good bit of money. You're right, for $900 I can get a Kreb's or something.. :)
