I just joined a new hunting lease that allows members to build shooting houses as long as they are not permanent. Does anyone have any plans they would be willing to share?
Not to thread jack but "shooting house"? For hunting? Kind of urbane isn't it? You guys do stuff different wherever you are....
I say that and the last several deer I shot were from behind a hay bale so I guess it is not all the different though I did have to sneak up to said bale.
How about these? They were the "rage" in the fifties, and some were custom made for sportsmen. Since you make it, you could construct it with additional windows. You can also take it with you when hunting season is over and use it for camping elsewhere.
By not permanent couldn't be just a regular deer blind. They are not permanent. Just a wood box with small shooting windows. They sell them on Craigslist all of the time down here for a few hundred dollars if you don't want to build your own. You might also check some out and get an idea. We built one for our lease a coupl of years ago. Took like 15 2x4's and 8 shetts of plywood.
That's just what they are called here. The purpose would be to mark a spot, so to speak. We don't have the luxury of millions of acres of public land like you do in Missoula (by the way, my parents live in Huson). It is on a small lease with a few members. I would plant a food plot and it would be a good place to get out of the rain/weather and my wife would be more likely to go with me.
Box blind, what it's known as here. It can be ground level or elevated, have hunted both. Some 2x2s and plyboard, ain't hard to build, don't need plans. I built an elevated box blind on a welded rebar structure, once, 12 feet elevated. Ground level box blinds go up quick. You can rig 'em with plexiglass windows or not. Keeps the wind and rain out and the heat in.
Good lord! Was that a box blind or a house? Does it have running water, a toilet, and internet wired???? LOL! I reckon one for two shooters would take that much. Mine was just a one person set up.
I'd go with 2x2s or rip the 2x4s. It'll be lighter and strong enough. Use wood screws.
