POSP scopes and left hand shooters

I was looking into "cheap" ways to scope a right handed bolt action rifle. The sidemount rail that a POSP uses seemed like it required minimal damage to the rifle and still provided a decent optic set up. However, I remember reading somewhere that the POSP scopes, when fitted, were skewed to the right slightly because the original rifles they were intended to be fitted on were to be fed via stripper clip.

The problem: I'm a lefty (not naturally, but because of eye dominance) using a right handed rifle (no problem there) but was wondering if the POSP would be comfortable to use.

I got the idea from this article:

And here is a picture of the finished project:

Looks nice, but not plausible.

Any alternatives would be great, but I am not interested in knocking out the rear sight for a "scout" style mount.

Thanks for any help.

I have a PSL, which uses one of these scopes, and I'm left-handed. I'm in the process of phasing it out for 2 reasons. One is the aforementioned offset which means I really can't shoot the rifle standing up. The other is the fact that that they're a female dog to sight in. I like the reticle, but I can't get the blasted thing set up.

However, there is an easy solution for you: Go to Kalinka Optics and order one of their BP-02 mounts, then mount a standard scope on it. The BP-02 centers the scope over the barrel, allowing comfortable use by lefties. I just ordered one for my PSL, and received it in 2 days. I'm very happy with it. The only thing I'd caution you is to be sure you order the right mount for the right rail. There's AK rails and there's SVD / SKS / PSL rails. Functionally, there's no advantage to either, but they're not quite compatible with each other (AK mounts will attach to SVD rails, but will be set too far back; SVD mounts won't attach to AK rails).

Note the BP-02 comes in 2 forms. One is standard, which allows co-witnessing the iron sights. The other is low-profile, which gives a better cheek weld. Decide which one you prefer. Keep in mind that, because of the quick-release mount, co-witnessing really isn't important. These mounts hold zero after being dismounted.

Which rifle are you trying to scope?

additionally, I've shot garands with offset scopes (as a lefty), and the scopes are totally unuseable.

you might be able to get away with shooting the rifle right handed and using your left eye through the scope, but that is arguably the most wonky sighting situation imaginable.

I'm looking to possibly scope a pre-wartime mauser.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. THe BP-02 looks like a good deal, but I plan on looking around a little more.

In an effort not to start other thread, are there any surplus scopes like the POSP? Particularly something more left handed friendly while still the same price.
