I've been having a problem with Remington Game Load shells in my 16 ga. 11-48. About one in 10 shells will separate at the head, leaving the plastic case in the chamber and brass head on the ground or just in front of the bolt. I was at the range yesterday when this happened and was told to send the hull to Remington and they would send me a new box.

Let's assume for a moment that the shells are not the problem ( I know it's possible, butI've never had problems with this brand before). is there anything that I should look for that could cause the extractor to rip the shells apart like this?

I have sent Remington an e-mail asking about the shells, with a lot number.

thanks

Could be the ammo, but I would check to make sure the chamber is really clean with no plastic residue.

The extractor is working fine if it will tear the head off !!! But as Jim said a pitted, rusted, plastic coated chamber can cause the problem [that's why some of us have chrome plated bores !

Your shells aren't longer than the chamber are they? (IE. Chambering 3" shells in a 2-3/4" chamber.)

If so, the shells could be "press fitting" into the forcing cone making them difficult to remove.
