My wife and I are considering a move to New Mexico from Colorado. Can any member please tell me if they have the castle doctrine in NM or is it a 'run away from threat' state like Nebraska (crazy laws). Won't even consider moving there if I don't have the legal right to use lethal force to defend family and home. Also used to live in AZ and there you can't be screwed by a civil liabilty brought by a BG's family ... what's the overall situation in NM?

No castle doctrine here you can only fire upon an intruder if you feel your life or the lives of those around you are in danger.

And if it's anything like the other non-CD states, the perp's family can sue you in civil court.

EDIT: I should learn to read *all* the post first. I see you already said that.

Thanks guys. No CD no NM even though we like the place :( Can't figure out why every state doesn't have the CD. Maybe they don't have BG's? What are you supposed to do .. stand there and ASK the BG if he came in for a cold coke or wants to blow you away? Course the rich anti-gun mob just get their bodyguard to do the job that they're unwilling or unable to do themselves.
