Possible problem with Arsenal SAM7 barrel.

Ive had the rifle about a year now and Ive never noticed it but on closer inspection I spotted a ring/groove/line around the outside of the barrel about an inch or so from the front sight post. I dont really know what to make of it. It can be felt when I drag my fingernail across it so it is a small groove or cut of some sort. Ive never encountered a cracked barrel before so I dont really know what to look for and I doubt one would crack in a perfect ring all the way around. Maybe some kind of manufacturing defect?

Or shoot it in low light while having another person watch/video it?

If you give the bore a good wet scrubbing with penetrating oil, it will migrate through a crack and be apparent on the outside.

It’s fine. It’s a step down on the barrel. Look at other SAM7’s. They all have it.m

Thats a load off my back. I had been thinking about it all day. I didnt really think it was a crack but some sort of manufacturing defect didnt seem out of the realm of possibilities. Good to know that its normal. Thank you for your help.

I'm surprised no one's gotten this yet, but @JDGray is close.

That's the spot where the CNC lathe program switched from a smooth taper to a fixed diameter profile to permit mounting that front sight. Nearly every gas block barrel has one, many more abrupt, some smoother.
