Compact mauser project

.270 seems to feed great without any modifications. The length of pull fits me well or I’d consider chopping it. I did pull it apart to see about smoothing out the trigger, and sure enough, there was a very rough spot under the double hump. Instead of messing with it, I just threw a timney in it lol. Making it rain on this project.

Yes I glassed it, everywhere is sold out of acraglass, so used 2 part tool handle epoxy. Its the same stuff i use on axe and hammer heads so its tough under impact. I used it before on other rifles with good success. I really think that crappy trigger was most the problem, that and it was -5 outside, so might have been a little rushed shooting that day.

yeah, that'll do it lol.

You can get a very nice trigger from a mauser, some polishing helps. Like to take up some of the first stage of the trigger with a shim, pulls the trigger back a little helping to reach and more room in the trigger guard.

I was raised in mauser triggers and even in original form I like them very much. Wish some modern rifles would use the design.

I do like the simplicity and inherent reliability of the original design, my 95 chilean swede amalgamation rifle has the original trigger which I polished up and I have no problem shooting 1” groups with it, actually I prefer the smooth build-up to a sharp break. I think my big fat meaty hands just work better with a heavier trigger as long as its smooth. I seem to shoot smooth double action triggers well also. To each his own I guess.
