I've become ather fast at making mag changed with my P2K. The paddle mag release is really positive and fast and after I shove the fresh mag in my thumb is in perfect position to hit the slide release lever. Since both hands are on the grip bringing the gun to action is smooth.
I can do the same with my 1911's and High Powers.
However with my Sig I have to slingshot because the slide release is so darn small.

What do you do?
Repititions so you develop a fine motor skill in using the slide stop, or use a Gross motor skill in the slingshot technique?

The mag release on modern HK pistols is the only one I've never had to learn my way around. I was surprised how perfectly natural it is to use.

For returning the slide to battery, I use the slide lock on both sides with the shooting hand (thumb and trigger finger) to positively engage it. However, most reputable trainers will recommend sling-shotting it.

In an emergency, people don't rise to the occasion, but are reduced to their level of training.

That is an excellent quote and so true.

I prefer a reversed sling-shot method. Since it uses a more reliable gross motor skill action, you have less possibility of error. This is especially apparent under combat stress conditions which is what you experience in a shooting. FLETC and Quantico demonstrated this time and time again with their combat stress handgun course in which competition shooters with their customized 1911s were beat out by cadets using gross motor skills that they had learned in the academy. Never expect to be your best in the worst of emotional and physical conditions.
