Seeing how I haven't been thinking straight about .50's lately because of some Foreigner POS has taken away my rights, let's get back to the .50 FUCA.

El, I have the perfect idea for you to build your own rifle. I'm sure you've heard of the Maadi Griffin .50 BMG? www.maadigriffin.com You can build this and use a .50 BMG case but neck it down to .499 if you want. Call CH4D www.ch4d.com and have them make you a die to do this unless they have something similar already. You can also get ahold of Montana Rifleman www.montanarifleman.com or Lothar Walther www.lothar-walther.com to make the barrels. They are already set up to run .50 BMG barrels for the Maadi Griffin project, keep the same dimensions but have it rechambered to the new case and .499.

Your best bet is to do a group thing here to bring down the price. If you can find someone to CNC the receiver it will make the next process easier. I figure that because you can't have one person make all the receivers (unless they are licensed) you'll have to do it yourself. So if that person is ready, the CNC operator could show them how to set up the steel in the machine and press the button to start it. You can legally build your own rifle and if you ever wanted to sell it, just stamp a serial # on it. That's where your .50 FUCA comes into play. So finding a person with a CNC machine that's willing to help you out would help.

Call CH and see what they can do first, then call and see about getting the barrels made. If these two things can be done then your in business, the only thing you'll have to do is have bullets custom made to .499. Any machine shop with a screw machine can turn them out all day long, the more you make the cheaper they will be. You can use copper or brass to make solids for it.

Just some food for thought, think about it.

My first question is there already a large supply of .499 bullets out there? If not, then we should stick to messing with the brass and not the bullets. The main point is to get this thing to where as little is changed as possible. Even better, if you can keep the rifle as a .50 caliber, I think it is that much more of a powerful statement that these laws mean nothing to not only criminals, but to us law abiding citizens. We need a little civil disobeidence here. And if they come back and restrict the .50 FUCA, then we do something else. We keep making them ban guns until the people of this state see this isn't about assault weapons or protecting lives. It is about control.

Here's the deal as other see it, no one wants to be the "test" subject. If a .50 BMG is defined the way AB50 is written, they feel that there's alot of loopholes in it.

The only way to test this out is for someone to get busted/caught with it, then you'll run the Kali legal system. If you want to keep it .50 then ask for a chamber cut to 3.895 for the brass and then load your own to 5.45" OAL. This is a standard load unlike the 5.54" in AB50. Have them stamp .50 FUCA on the side and then go from there.

Rojo, are you gettin into the 50BMG game?

I put on order one single shot DPMS lower receiver which hopefully will get here within the next week or two. I think I'm going to go the single shot upper assembly route, probably the ALS upper assembly due to it being more target shooting oriented.

I need to get back in contact with the guys on the DOJ commitee up north and find out whether or not they will accept the registration of a DPMS single shot lower as a 50BMG rifle. If they say no because of the "223Rem" marked on the lower, I'll simply ask "what if I engrave 50BMG on it to denote the new chambering".

That is a HUGE issue right now and I better be able to register the damn thing, I DO NOT want to be in a situation where an officer should suspect I have an unregistered 50BMG rifle if I should be stopped while traveling between point A and point B. Or out shooting the thing and some schmuck think he can hassle me over the rifle. I want a piece of documentation I can keep with the rifle and easily demonstrate that the thing is infact legal.

I'd love to get an AR50 or a single shot Barrett but I don't have the 2400-2700 right now to do it. I can very likely get the upper assembly though.

50Shooter, how many happy or satisfied ALS owners have you met? I'm pretty familiar with the choices, Ferret, UltraMag, or ALS. The ALS seems to be the most robust of all the designs while also being a fair price. I don't need a repeater so the UltraMag is out, pretty expensive as well and if I was gonna spend the money I'd rather go a bit further and buy the AR50.

As for the new chambering thing, I liked the idea of slightly bumping back the shoulder and giving it a new angle while giving it a slightly rebated rim.

It would make it so 50BMG wouldn't chamber in rifles cut for the new round but the round itself would have virtually the same performance as a 50BMG.

UG,
I don't think I've ever heard of a ALRS owner not being satisfied, the owner of the company won first place in the hunter class at Raton last year in the .50 championships.

I don't have the money for a .50 BMG plus the last thing I want to do is register a gun. Not because of my tin-foil hat, but on principle. Now buying a PRK legal .50 FUCA, that I would save my money for. I just want to give them a big ole FUCA!
