Awesoem stuff loandr. Keep it up. :) I have a few of them 'handy twine knives' myself bro....theyre nice 'throwaway' knives. Do some quick damage and toss it. Good stuff. :)

Thanx alwillam...I was wondering. ;)

USMC Fighting/Utility and the Navy MkII knives never had serrated edges. The serrated versions are a recent commercial variant that KaBar makes.

thumb knife/dagger

hey guys, im new here n im a knifemaker and i was wondering if someone might be willing to tell me the dimensions of one of those thumb dagers?
thank you.

It depends on the thumbdagger....you may want to email or PM alwilliam for that info. IIRC he actually has a few originals from the OSS/CIA stuff.

I currently have 3 books with different kinds of those thumb daggers and none of them have any specs, only one of the books said very vaguely: "Its much like the tip of a Sykes Fairbairn Commando Knife".

Sorry I dont have any better info. If I was making one, I would use a piece of posterboard or cardboard as a model to see what size fits between my index finger and thumb proportionately to the size of what you see in the pics of people holding them.

Just a thought....hope it helps. :)

thanks eric, i actually havnt seen a picture of someone holding one do you happen to have one??? i have seen them relative to coins however.
thanks

All good stuff Eric...Love all the spikes...have a few myself...but I did place my vote for the Smachet.... As far as bladed weapons in the Military goes....Next to some of my Vietnam Tactical Hawks I own (not WWI/WWII) the Smachet is one of my most favorite double edged knives....for more reasons than one could imagine.....Doc:D

This is worth registering for...you've missed a winner.

Despite the Everitt/McNary/Clements model knuckle knives/trench knives becoming the classic description for American WWI era weapons, the British did have a jaw-dropping equivalent.

When I read the thread title, my first thought was a Randall Model 1. The poll says dagger, so I'll modify that to a Randall Model 2.

With all respect to everyone here...I think its cool to post any WWI or WWII blades, not just daggers. Any OSS/CIA/SOE stuff. I titled it "Post your favorite WWI/WWII Blade" becuz I know that there arent just daggers. Now we all know that the daggers were some of the most recognized and prolific bladed items of that period and I did enter 99% of the poll options as daggers, so its easy to see how it could get limited to that category. But lets not forget the last option..."Other". :)

Either way, I love all of them bladed items from that time period and every other time period...rock and roll.

I attached a pic of one I just finished for a friend who's making an AR-15 forearm grip that needed a knife. It was based on a model from the WWII OSS Blades. Its Cera-Koted in Armor Black and made out of 1/4" thick CPMD2.
