Powder 9A is a very fine ball powder, gray. A friend says it is AA9. Can someone confirm this?
IDPA loads were:
9mm 4.3 grains under a 135
9mm 3.8-3.9 grains under a 147

Where did you get this powder?, what is the source of supply?

I looked at Accurate Arms page and there are no 9mm loads with AA#9.

Seems to me that someone saw the name "9A" and made the assumption that it has to be "AA#9".

That is an assumption that I don't believe is valid.

Why could it not be AA#5, AA#7, or a bunch of other fast buring pistol ball powders on the market?

Maybe it is Russian, Japanese, Korean, or a Bulgarian surplus powder. You really did not leave a bunch of clues on its origin.

AA#9 is a ball powder, mine has irregular sized grains, but since Accurate Arms buys powders from different vendors, one vendor's ball powder will look different from anothers.

I scrounged a bunch live rounds off the ground at IDPA nationals this year. I've measured, weighed, and pulled them now, but I don't recognize some of the powders.

I AM NOT GOING TO USE ANY OF THIS POWDER. I'm just curious what it is. I recognize about half of the powder used, but the other half is not familiar to me.

If you think you recognize one, please let me know.

Thanks,

The 9A powder name is just a coincidence. It means nothing. It could be labeled "Bob" powder.
