I have 125 gr fp Berrys plated bullets and am getting some MBC 158 gr SWC, 12 brinnel hardness. I have bullseye, unique, w231, and titegroup powders. Am going to be loading 38 and 357 brass. Loads will all be light to medium target loads at 38 levels, even in the 357 brass. Maybe some in +p range in 357 brass. Will all these powders and bullets work together? Thanks Trikerider

For +p .38 loads in .357 brass, possibly Unique, but not the others. You'd do better with a slower powder...something like 2400.

Going with what you have: For the light to medium loads Titegroup or W231 would be good. If your loading +P loads I would go with the slower Unique. Unique will do it all if you want to stick with just one powder.

The powders are fine, but for +P Loads you might do better with the MBC 357s in Bhn 18 hardness. BHN 12 will be a little soft over 1000 FPS.

Brad has a good explanation of which hardness to use on the Missouri Bullet web site.

For light and medium 38 spl loads all of your powders will work. Load and test to find the loads that work best.

I don't think he will need a harder bullet. You really aren't going to exceed 1000 fps in a +P round without exceeding the SAAMI pressure limits.

You are probably right if he is referring to 38 Special loads, but he did specifically state 357 Mag cases, so I was not sure what he meant exactly. Also Accurate lists some 38 Special +P loads that do exceed 1000fps, although not over 1200fps.

I know what you mean about the .357's but the OP said in his first post, "Loads will all be light to medium target loads at 38 levels, even in the 357 brass." I really don;t think he'll have a problem with those bullets if he sticks to what he said.

Thanks everyone. I don't plan to run over 1000 fps on any loads, so appears all combinations will work. I don't have a crono, so will have to rely on load data from my reloading books. I thought they would all work for what I plan on, but wanted more experienced help. trikerider
