Our Bass Pro got some 2400 in the other day and I thought I would give some a try. I reached over and picked up the bottle and thought to myself why such a big bottle for so little powder.

So I grabbed the bottle behind it to see if they felt the same. NOPE. I opened the lighter bottle to find the sealer cap was missing. I took the bottle to the counter with the cap off and the guys already knew what I was about to say. Come to find out it was the third one that day.

This got me to thinking, If some jack is going to steal powder what's to stop them from mixing powders.

The powder is going to be removed from the shelves and now you/I will have to ask if powder is in stock.

I'm not picking on Bass Pro, It's the shop that I get my powder from that's all.

I see similar issues at other "box" stores and can't believe it... When I sold reloading components at two different places, we didn't even keep bullets or brass outside "behind the counter", much less primers or propellants.

Good on you for telling the staff. Even though it will add some inconvenience, it may have stopped someone with more malevolent intent at the worst, and a dirty thief at the least.

I was at Cabala's last year and noticed a guy and his wife/girlfriend filling a hard rifle case under the foam, and a baby diaper bag with goodies while they were shopping in the reloading section.

I went to the gun counter and told the clerks.

The response was basically "Mind my own business"! :what:

No wonder the prices are so high.

I got to thinking later maybe they had surveillance on them and wanted them to steal enough stuff to make it a felony?

Good on you RC!

I was shopping at a local retail giant.. *cough*.. observed a male in the sporting goods dept that was filling up the bottom of a large fishing tackle box with various lures, worms and hooks. I followed him around and got behind him in line.. the clerk slid the 29.00 fishing tackle box across the scanner and ask him if that was all.. He replied it was. I leaned over asked the clerk if she had seen LISA.. She looked at me for a second then her training kicked in.... she picked the box back up and opened it up, looking in all the compartments..

I think his bill was a little over 120.00 after she rang up the correct amount.. :)

LISA - Look In Side All

IN my experience, it is either a store employee filling his coffee mug with powder and taking it home, or it is a customer who has noticed that the pound bottles are about half full and is topping the ones he buys up to the lid.
Either way, it is sloppy management at the store that is letting it go on.

i gotta go check the lb of bullseye i bought at bass-pro in altoona a couple weeks ago to see if the seal is intact................

yep my seals are all intact..... three new lbs 2 bullseye and one red dot..........

same thing (seal cap missing) happened to me with a 4 lb jug of universal. called bass pro about it and they said it was shipped to them like that from Hodgdon.

the potential for malicious mixing is scary

IIRC, Alliant uses on their newer 8lb jugs a plastic ring thingy similar to a bottle of soda. If it has been opened, the plastic will be broken. Tamper evident ring, or whatever.

Ya know what , as many times as i`ve bought powder it never occurred to me to check the seal in the store !!! I will now!!!!

I do make sure I`m the seal breaker before using it though.
