There appears to be a small spot which looks like a powder burn on my beloved P7. It's located on the right side of the gun, just above the trigger guard. Is there any way of removing this from the blued finish without doing any damage to said finish? Thanks. :)

P7M8?? Powder ''burn"?? I am no expert on this gun but - sure as heck would be good to know what ''burn'' means and a pic would speak volumes too possibly. Hard to tell for me otherwise.... others too perhaps.

It's a P7 PSP that I purchased on this board in 2003.

I'm just assuming that it's a "powder burn" of some sort since this blemish is right next to the gas piston. There was gun powder all over the inside of this gun when I got it, so I just figured that the stain on the finish was somehow related. Heck, it might not even be gun powder, for all I know it could be some kind of solvent that is on there.. *shrug*

As far a getting a pic, I don't have a camera readily available. I'll see if I can dig one up and post something on here. ;)

If what you are looking at is a powder burn, the finish has been damaged, and the appropriate refinishing will be required.

If it's just a buildup of residue ("crud"), Hoppe's #9 or other solvent will loosen it without damage to the finish, and you can rub it off with a cloth.

I'd also recommend Flitz metal polish. It's non-abrasive, safe on bluing, and takes the carbon build-up right off teh face of a revolver without too much effort. Has worked well on my blued revolvers for years.

Get the paste, not the liquid. Easier to work with.
