Powder burn rate vs speed

Reverse math is telling me roughly 5gr of bullet weight equals 100fps.

That isn’t “math.” Doesn’t mean anything.

The tac load is very accurate, just want to pick up some speed with the accuracy node.

This also doesn’t mean anything. The node is a narrow band of charge weights with a given bullet which result in not much variation in speed. If you “pick up speed,” you’ll be moving out of the node. You can’t wish your way to a higher speed without moving away in speed...

The speed the mfg posted is what they got with there equipment. May or may not get there with yours. In most cases the mfg have numbers that do not add up. You cronyed the factory ammo and it was way less than advertised. That should tell you something right there. My word of advice is not to chase velocity. Shoot for the most accurate and consistent loads.

a max charge of H335 as listed in Lyman 49 gives me 3250 FPS 10" from the muzzle with a 55 Grain bullet LC brass, in a 20" 1in7, and around 3150-3200 in a 16' 1in9. I think I was getting about 3100 out of the 20 using max of Reloader 15. A 24" would probably help. With R15 the difference between 16 and 20' was more pronounced. BLC2 gave me decent results, Reloader 15 pretty good, but needed more than 20', and H335 -probably the most popular powder for 224 cals- gave me the most, and good accuracy.

I didn' get lower than advertised speeds, they were actually 30-40 fps over advertised.

Best powders I've tried for velocity and accuracy in .223 with 77gr bullets are Varget, BL-C2 and CFE223. H4895 was promising but I did not test it enough. IMR 8208XBR gives excellent accuracy but the velocity is not as high. I would think H4350 is too slow and you would not get enough powder in the case to reach max pressure.
