I just had a VERY interesting conversation with an employee of a name brand reloading machine company.
I own one of these machines and called up to see if the accuracy of the Thrower Bar could be improved. I am getting between a .3 to .5 grain variation shot to shot. The employee said this was within the accuracy the unit was marketed at. OK... I did not have a problem with this. I used the machine for many years for pistol only and didn't worry too much about accuracy until I recently began loading rifle.
What was interesting was the next statement that this man made. He said that the small variation would not make a difference in my rifle (PTR91). He went on to say that even Federal Match grade ammo has a 3.0 to 5.0 GRAIN (not tenth of a grain) variation on power charge from cartridge to cartridge. He asserted that he personally pulled down a box of Federal Match ammo and this was in fact his finding.
Can anyone affirmatively confirm or dispel this assertion???
