Powder coating... is there a way to coat commercial lubricated cast lead bullets?

Can commercial cast lead bullets be "de-lubed" easily to allow powder coating?
I don’t powder coat commercial cast lead bullets but I do coat the again with LLA ( Lee Alox) I leave the lube in them and put the LLA right over it then leave them dry overnight the next night I tumble them again with a little powdered mica like a 1/4 teaspoon for 150 bullets, then they are ready to load this works very well for me. It keeps your barrels very clean with virtually no leading cuts my cleaning time in half. You might want to give it a try before you jump into powder coating but it’s not for everyone.

As mentioned above it can be accomplished. The biggest issue is skimming the lube off the water each time so as not to let it reattach as you change it out.

That said, depending on just what bullet your looking to coat, you might be better off either just shooting them up or possibly swapping them for some plain un-lubed ones. If your interested in that route post up the bullet or mold number, and shoot me a PM if you might just want to swap even up. If I have the mold, easy peasy...

Yes I did it once with 500 45 acp bullets

A easier way than boiling is just put them on a pan with newspaper or a towel and bake in a old toaster oven (in garage or outside)_ they will smoke off. Around 200 or so degrees.

When cool, clean them in a acetone,or brake clean. I used Coleman camp gas.

Then go about powder coating.

My advice would be to let the water cool and the lube solidify before you take them out. It will save you multiple boiling steps. At least it did for me.

Also, remember that the powder coat is going to add 3 or 4 thousandths to the bullet diameter, and will need to be resized to avoid future chambering problems.
