I'm just getting back into reloading.....have a 1903a3 Springfield and an M1A. All of my shooting will be at 100 and 200 yard reduced High Power matches.
I want to use just one powder for both rifles. I'll be using 150 gr BTSP bullets.
I'm thinking IMR 4895.
Are there better powders I should consider????
Thanks for any help.

I have a 1903A3 and M1 Garand and use IMR-4895. IMR-4064 is often used by alot of reloaders, however I found 4985 to be more accurate. You may find otherwise.

I've heard alot of shooters are also using Varget with great success. With the M1, you are limited to the powders you can use. I don't know if the same thing is found in the M1A/M14.

With the 1903A3, you can pretty much use anything you want.

I like Ball powder, WW 760, 748, AA2520 and AA2460, I heard ball powder takes years to degrade, and I did buy a lot of Accurate Arms Powder cheap, many moons ago....Glad I did, price increases are a killer.
Has anyone tried Military Ball powders? Those prices are reasonable....
There's inflation out there........

I'd recommend VIHTAVUORI N150 or N550. Both powders are suitable for .308 and .30-06 with 150grs bullets. At least if the barrel length of the rifle is 24" or longer.

Data for .308 Win:

Cases: LAPUA
Primers: Large Rifle
Bullet: SIERRA 150grs SPBT
Powder: VV N150 44,2-48,2grs (2576-2790fps; 24" barrel)
C.O.L.: 2,756"

Data for .30-06:

Cases: LAPUA
Primers: Large Rifle
Bullet: SIERRA HPBT 150grs
Powder: VV N150 50,8-56,3grs (2646-2935fps; 24" barrel) OR VV N550 54,2-59,7grs (2734-3006 fps; 24" barrel).
C.O.L.: 3,307"

I have been using win 748 with good results. I have used 4895 in the past. I have also used 4064 and win 760 for the .30-06. I have found that Widener's has really good prices on cases of 748, plus you can mix and match for only $4 more.
