My Son came home with several boxes of 7mm RM he picked up at a yard sale. I warned him not to use it simply because it is someone elses reloads, but the data on the MTM cartridge boxes was even more good cause to just pull them and start over. My point is to inform those new to reloading to not be intimidated by data and to use it as published to avoid serious issues. Starting charges are deffniely OK and a good starting point, but reducing exessively is far more dangerous than running a maximum published SAAMI approved charge could ever be.

They had 130 gr. JSP bullets with a 48.0 gr. charge of IMR-4350. My Son insisted on shooting them which resulted in collapsed walls, and primers were backed out and leaking. Gases leaked all the way down to the head of every case.

Excellent advice. 48.0 gr is a seriously reduced load for that bullet/cartridge combination. Folks do try reduced loads in big guns, but it sure looks like 4350 isn't the right answer for that! Not to mention your first point about shooting unknown handloads. What if it wasn't really 4350 but some pistol powder? Yikes!

Paronoia?

Every thing you said sounded like good sound advise to me. Why is it though our sons never listen to us. They will listen to a total strainger though.

Thats about as close as you can get to therotical cause of S.E.E., or Secondary Explosion Effect that blows up belted Magnum small bores occasionally!

Smack your son up side the head for me for shooting them! :D

Ya, he's a stubborn young man, I'll say that much RC!

I think I could have titled that better, maybe I should have said " use published charging tables"?

I was young and dumb once, but I would be damned if i was gonna prove the old man right lol. Looking back at all the little things we argued about, I probably would have saved alot of grief and money if i had just ate my pride and listened to him in the first place lol.

After I hit 20, my Dad became smarter and smarter as time went by.

How can THAT be? :D

I warned him not to use it simply because it is someone elses reloads

This is a good point. In addition, they are re-loads from an unknown source.

Everyone can and does their own thing and I respect that. However, I do not shoot any re-loads from an unknown source. I will shoot re-loads from friends I know and trust but that's about all. Just my opinion.......
