powder weights in grams?

hello, I'm trying to figure out how much Pyrodex P weighs, in 25 to 40 grains in 5 grain increments. I saw a post a week or two ago, but lost it. It can be in grams. thanks dominic...

Actually weight doesn't matter measurements are given by volume anyway equivilant to BP. Pyrodex +P is definately lighter.

With so many conversions, that the first thing to do is options/preferences/tabs and untag most of them !.

Shotgun loads are shown in DRAMS not grams.

A dram of Black Powder is 27 1/2 GRAINS again not grams

If that were the case then my Lyman Model 500 Scale would not be in metric i.e. grams. Neither would the RCBS Rangemaster 750 electronic scale offer grams / grains at the press of a button!

There's 454.6 graMSs in a pound avadupois IIRC

There's 7000 graINS in the same pound.

that's an error factor of ~ 15

You CAN use a gram scale to measure powder, but your decimal place accuracy won't be anywhere close to that of measuring graINS.

That said, in most BP guns (rifles/shotguns I mean) the powder weights are so large a 5 grain difference one way or the other has never affected accuracy for the kind of shooting I've done (deer w/ caplock and flintlock, ARW-1 reeanacting), but of course, YMMV.

Thanks for that post. I had asked that elsewhere and could not get a straight answer. Bigironbarrels.com was the only place that would answer it without a bunch of BS.
