Go to a website like Hodgden, IMR, etc. and start typing in. It will give you your load data, though as noted I'd get a manual. My preference is Lyman though there are many other good ones.

I'd most likely start with Universal Clays (make sure you don't get it confused with regular Clays) or Accurate #5.

I have a bunch of free pamphlets that the powder mfg's used to print, but I'm not sure they're available any more. Mr Google answers those questions now

No Unerversal clays around for a while, due to a plant fire. I have not seen any for over a year.
Your best plan is to get a manual and see what powders are available n your area, if any. Pistol/Shotgun powder still seems to be in short supply in my neck of the woods.
I have not done any 40 but I have used Unique, IMR 4756, IMR 7625, Longshot, Universal Clays in all the others.

And yes Longshot will work in .45 not my first choice on the slow side....

For 9mm ive used zip, 800x, hp38, 7625,4756, herco, bullseye, auto comp, american select

Hodgdon, Western Powders, and Alliant have some reload data on their sites. Hodgdon's (Hodgdon, IMR, & Winchester powders) has interactive data. Western Powders (Accurate, Norma, and Ramshot powders) has a .pdf file you can download. Alliant has some data, but it caters mostly to Speer bullets.

Searching those sights will give you some ideas of what is workable. But reload manuals will give you more coverage of different types of bullets with an array of powders.

Not all are optimal but #13 thru #50 ish on this burn rate chart.

Bullseye and Unique seem to be coming around more and both would be suitable for your cartridges.
There are plenty of others, but the pickin's are slim right now.

Yea, I debated on the range I should list. And good point on the shotty powders.

I think 28-45 is the sweet spot for 9mm powders on that burn rate list.
I agree with 13-50 as useable.

I would say that's pretty close to the sweet spot. Though I do like the 25 and 26 area also.
