I would like to shoot my MDL 66 in IDPA.

In order to be offical I need to make a power factor 125,000 (bullet weight X muzzle velocity).

I would prefer to shot 38 SPL over 357 Mag (not a wimp, just cheaper).

I have tried a few brands. For example BLAZER 158 LRN was coming in at 780fps. That is just under 125K.

Does anyone know a commercial 38 SPL load that they have chrongraphed that should get me 125K (bullet weight X muzzle velocity).

I am assuming any 38 SPL +P should make it.

Any recommendations?

Corbon makes a load they call Performance Match in 38 special. It uses a 140 grain bullet and was designed for people shooting IDPA. Check their website. CORBON.com

Take up reloading ;-)..

It sounds like you've got access to a chronograph, I'd try all the cheapos (winchester white box) and the like before ponying up bucks for some fancy corbon match ammo.

I believer that at one time, a couple of years ago, IDPA allowed the use of one or two brands of ammo that did not have to be qualified for the power factor. They may have been sponsors, or heavy contributors to IDPA, I'm not sure. At any rate, per manufacturers published ballistics, they did not meet the 125,000 requirement. One, I believe, was CCI Blazer. Anyone else remember this or am I just imagining it?

At any rate, you might want to contact office roaches at IDPA and see if any of the over the counter ammos have blanket approval with the qualifying standards waived.

I have answered my own question.
IDPA say it must be power factor, no factory ammo gets wavied because it is made by compnay x.

However S&B 158 GRN (FMJ or LRN) made power factor quite easily.
So if you want to shoot 38spl use a 158GRN S&B load. It is cheap and answers the mail.
