Power belts and most of the sabot loads work best in barrels with around 1 in28. That said, I got great accuracy with the TC maxi balls in 36, 45, 50, and 58 calibers. Your twist is 1 in 48". Try them, but put a little lube in the base.
I can tell ya this about the .50 Powerbelts in a T/C Hawken.
I lent my TC Hawken to a freind. He loaded one o' the .50 PB in it.
I told him to give the rifle back to me loaded.
( I had no clue the PB was in there. I assumed he used a lead ball)
Anywho, i wanted my wife to see the fun of black powder since she was just getting into shooting. That's why i asked him to leave it loaded.
Well, when i touched 'er off.she exploded in my face.
That PB had come loose in there and i got a detonation.
It was not my freinds fault.
And my bore is allways very clean( treated with Bore Butter), and in perfect condition. That sabbot just came loose in there.
The REAL nightmare began when i went to T/C for parts for it under my 'Lifetime ' warranty. But that's a whole 'nother unpleasant issue.
powerbelts are not sabots and tcs are extremely tight bored so i highly doubt that bullet came off the charge. What happened most likely was the fouling held up the bullet OFF the powder charge and because there was no witness mark on the ramrod, he " and you" figured it was seated.
Most manuals state, never shoot a gun someone else loaded. You found out the hard way. Good thing no one was hurt
