I'm thinking a PPC, a couple LRM racks and a pair of Medium ER Pulse Lasers.

My favorite are the long range missles with ER PPC's to demoralize the enemy before you get closer for an aimed head shot with the PPC.
It's all about the Salvage baby.

See, I always like "legging" them for salvage. A 40-ton with a 320XL can still pack a lot of weapons and armor; but be as fast as a Locust. Dart in at full speed, give a volley of medium lasers to the back or leg and then run away.

Though PPCs and LRMs make a good mix too... open up the big holes with the PPCs and then go for the criticals with a swarm of LRMs. They just require massive, slow-moving mechs to employ effectively.

with inner sphere mechs, Medium Pulse Lasers. and Jump jets. Get into close combat, jump behind them, the fire 8 med. pulse lasers into their rear armor.

Ha!

Degenerate freebirth scum of the Inner Sphere! The Clans will have their way with you! The sons of Kerensky are coming, be afraid, be very afraid.

Salvage as much of the crumbling Star Leauge tech that you want, it will not help you....

How many other people here play any part of the mechwarrior series? I have all the books... and the games... going back to MW 2.

I played MW2 a ton and the expansion pack.

I liked MW4 pretty good, but the weapon system was dumbed down a bit too much. I just picked up MW4 MErcs for a bargain, but I am putting off playing it because my CH Throttle is basically obsolete and does not work under WinXP. My joystick is ok, but too basic.

I think EB Games has little metal Mecs for about $15 or so - but I am too broke to breathe, let alone buy something like that.

Played the Xboc Mech - it was mildly entertaining, but lacked the depth of the PC games.

I wish they would make another one with the depth of MW2.

btw - I am huge on autocannons :D

I was just over at Your site when I read the news George!
My oh MY!!! Just amazing. Yup, Battletech rocks!

What do all of You think they'll mount on a battle prototype?
A couple of M2's and some stinger and/or AT-3 types?
Some miniguns? Maybe an MK19 for Sh*ts and giggles? :D

I think there's a NARC Beacon array at top. Looks like a Light Mech to me. Pair of Small ER Lasers on the left, Flamer on the right. Methinks there's an Assault Mech lurking in the background the camrea missed. :D

By the way, in real life I want nothing to do with drones, exoskeletal battle armor, and all that other stuff. At all. Not right now anyways. I have enough problems with a load of 150lbs+ on my person as it stands.

I always loaded my mechs down with the max number of small short range lasers and flamers when I really wanted to duke it out or was playing on a city map.

It's pretty amazing how much damage an alpha strike of 10 or 15 small lasers can do and that all recharge in about half a second. It's like having a laser machine gun. Then hit 'em with 5 or 6 flamers all at once.... muhahaha!!!

My absolute favorite though was the heavy gaus cannon mounted on a mech that could take 2 of 'em. Great sniper weapon. Pissed most people on line off way bad when they'd get taken out from 1000 m and not even know from where or how 'cuz I never used radar (I used it but for no more than a second or two at a time) - visual only.

Been playing it since it was a FASA boardgame (the original), played the updated boardgame, the original Activision Mechwarrior, the online version of the same at GEnie, Mechwarrior 2, Mechwarrior 3. The version at GEnie was my favorite of the computer spin-offs.

I played MW2 a ton and the expansion pack.

Me too. That whole system was totally unrealistic to the point of idiocy when it came to weapons (huge lasers with a maximum range of under 1,000 meters?!? ), but the game was still fun.

I was a sucker for the 65-75 ton 'mechs, and always liked to use jump jets. ER medium lasers galore and tons of double heat sinks.

Sometimes I used a mix of pulse lasers and Ultra autocannons for short-range fighting against smaller numbers of bad guys... you could just shred everything like mad until your ammo ran out, and even with a couple pulse lasers thrown in your heat buildup was next to nothing.

I always liked the autocannons in the Mechwarrior games. A pair of AC-10s complimented with a PPC and a few medium lasers could really dish out the damage.

:D

It almost looks like a Bushwacker mech without the arm armor. Man .. I loved that game. I ended up ebaying about 100 mini's to build my AR. And then ebaying my MTG cards bought me a Savage 10FP

I love recycling hobbies ...

Naw I ran a shadowcat with ER larges ala snipermech for a good number of years on tabletop with a good spread've Pulse mediums and smalls for the closerange work. Never let me down, never lost in combat. Salvaged an insane amount've clantech by just keeping either real far or real close and worked from behind them.

Hey, all you 'Heads!!

Okay, I'm organising the first Official THR MW4 shootout online (I think)!!

I run a PC Gaming Center up here in Denton, where I host a local MW4:M server called Fraghamster Mechwar. Come on out on Friday night, and join us!! We've always got some big fun up!

Hmmm...how to recognize each other? How 'bout any THR-ers put that in your callsign? Or maybe use that, and your handle from THR? Just a thought.

I've built up a fairly fun couple of 'mechs...I'm sure you'll all enjoy them [evil grin]!!

Has anyone else noticed how absolutely nasty those rotary ACs are?!? Imagine a vulcan-style 100mm cannon!! :what:

Anyway, come on out...we're usually fragging between 1900-2300 on Friday nights, when my buddy Paul comes in. I usually go under the handle of Hammer Gnome, Meatshield, or Coffin Boy. If you see me, you know you're in the right place! In honour of the event, though, I may go in as THR-Kalindras, so look for that, if you don't see any of the others!!

C'mon out!!

:D

My friends & I would hold lance tournaments back in the late 80's and early 90's usually based on a max tonnage limit for the entire lance. We'd run unmodified mech platforms in a 4 mech lance, one man to a mech. We had one guy who would ALWAYS run a Jenner no matter what the max weight limit was. His nickname became birddog because he could flush anything out into the open so the rest of us could shoot at it without cover penalties. He had an uncanny knack for getting directly behind a stationary mech and hitting it from behind. After a while with some luck this works beautifully at demoralizing after taking out a mech more than twice the weight of his own. Then they would all run in fear and scatter into the fields to be cut down like dogs.

I miss that guy a lot...

That thing looks like a small mech, I'd say equip it with several flamers and machineguns and a pair of medium lasers. Use it to cut down infantry and light vehicles.
