There's something about long range shooting that I find just so deeply satisfying in many ways. It's a combination of art and science, and it requires you to bring together a whole slew of variables before producing one very carefully released shot.
I must admit, this is where I have the most fun in shooting these days (and I do enjoy nearly any type of shooting). There's just something special about taking a tiny, inch long piece of metal and propelling it onto a steel target that is sitting half a mile away, and nearly invisible to the naked eye... When everything goes right there's a moment of bliss to be found in the clang of the gong. Conversely, when one variable or another isn't properly accounted for, it can result in a maddeningly frustrating time at the range. But, again, it's all for that moment when things come together perfectly, shot after shot, all day long!
Where do you guys find your utopian moments with rifles? Do you guys enjoy long range precision, high speed stuff with the AR's, old rifles, or something else entirely?
