Working on my proces to really make BP as the last of my Goex is running out. I'm wanting to press the BP to increase the density closer to factory powder and I was wondering what others here are using for this? Seems that the presses sold by pyrotechnics companies are well made, but quite expensive! Are there more affordable tools out there? I've been thinking about modifying a front brake caliper off a truck or something if it really comes to it...

Also, wondering about press technique. Do you put things in the press wet or dry? If wet, how do you prevent shooting a stream of nasty water across the room when you press things down? Do you hold the pressure while it dries or can the puck be set aside to dry once initially compressed?

Thanks! That is a great site. I like all the homemade tools. Looks like the best solution for a homemade die is DIY.

I use the press that "Fly" makes and it GREAT and good price
I use a ball mill and first ball the charcoal and sulfur for 5 hrs then add the nitrate and ball for 11 hrs.
Add just a little water....load the press about 1/2" and press with floor jack under my dually

corning my powder

I started corning my powder instead of just screening it. It now weighs
the same amount as the powder measure shows. I bought one of those
corning presses from Fly & it works so well. His workman ship is top notch.

Making you own home made powder makes the sport that much better.

If you don't make your own now, give it a try. FF;)

Yup, have been making some for awhile. Running low on Goex now so upping my homemade game. Moving from the mortar and pestle to a rock tumbler was truly like moving out of the stone age.

I've got one of Fly's presses on the way now.

And you will LOVE the press from FLY. Does a GREAT job. BP is so much better.
