Does anyone out there have any idea what a Kahr K40 in stainless steel is worth? A buddy is trying to work a trade with me and I want to get an idea......

thanks

gunner

Stainless finish, is an elite, like new condition, the only accessories are the 2 mags that came with it, box etc.....

sorry I didnt add this...was a brain fart

K40 Elite 98 in LNIB condition, 2 mags is the way they come from Kahr BTW...with nights: a good deal would be 425-475$, a smokin deal would be less than 425$. Without nights.....take about 40-50$ off the above $.

Shoot well.

I own a beautiful polished stainless Kahr MK40 Elite 98 with Mep Pro night sites. It carries an MSRP of $833.00 which we all know is over inflated. If you can pick one up like PCRCCW says for around $450 to $475 I would say grab it. I own 4 Kahrs, The MK40 Elite is hands down the best one and is my 24/7 carry gun. Many thousand rounds down range and nary a hiccup. These are great pistols that don't get a lot of comments on THR.
I would recommend against a polymer frame model. For some reason I can't explain, the polymer models are a bit more troublesome than their all stainless brothers. When you first get your all stainless you will think it is way too heavy but you very quickly get used to the 25 ounces and when you start poppin' .40cal caps at the range you'll appreciate the extra weight. I can't speak for every Kahr owner, I can only tell you that all of mine are stainless and all are trouble free. They all have better trigger action than any one of my three Glocks (Glocks are great, yes they are) but the MK40 Elite has the best trigger of the four.

I have the chance to get it on a trade, a gun that I have 200 in plus 100 cash, so my out of pocket is 300, so this is a good deal??

I love when I get good deals.......:D

KahrKarrier, how do you carry you K40? I have an Alessi WSDT for my K9 which is great, but I don't carry often. Interested in what others put their Kahrs in for concealed carry.

For 300$ my wallet would have friction burns on it from the money coming out so fast..............does that tell you?

I make ALOT of Kahr holsters...about 75% IWB and about 25% pocket.
Just for reference......IWB is the most popular CCW holster by far......

Shoot well.

I'm a little on the heavy side, not obese just chunky, so my carry method is a bit unusual. I carry in a dirt cheap Uncle Mikes IWB holster at about the appendix position. What is unusual is that I wear the holster outside of the trousers clipped on under my belt. I tuck the muzzle end of the holster into the pocket of my Levis, cinch up my Wally World $12 leather belt, put on a loose fitting "T" shirt and the gun disappears and I'm good to go. I can still get my hand in that pocket and if needed can make a quick draw. I hardly know the gun is there. It doesn't ride up when I sit down, it just stays put. Same method in the summer wearing shorts.
I have an inventory of about $500 bucks worth of leather holsters of every description but always go back to a $12 Uncle Mikes. After a year or when it's dirty or whatever, I just throw it away and get another. Try it you'll like it.

$300 is a smokin hot deal. I have a P9 Covert and want a TP9. I don't really have any desire for an all-steel Kahr but for $300 I'd buy it with zero hesitation.

I have a High Noon Hidden Impact and a Hidden Ally. Both are leather tuckable IWB jobbies. The only difference is the Ally comes in black and reholstering is a bit of a pain. The Impact only comes in tan and reholstering is a breeze. I almost always carry my P9 in the Ally as it seems to fit just a touch better and is marginally more comfortable. If I were an officer and thought I would ever have to reholster in public, I'd take the Impact.

I was on my way to get the Kahr when my cell phone rang. Another friend of mine asked me to swing by, saw the 22 pistol I was trading and made me a deal I could NOT refuse. Same $200 gun plus $100 cash for a 1982 MKIV Series 80 Colt GOv't in stainless, the hundred was out of my wallet and in his hands before he finished his sentence. Just finished cleaning this gem. According to my rcbs trigger guage it weighs in a hair over 3.25 pounds. I am not getting pangs of regret over passing up the Kahr. Will post some pics once I take them.

:D :D

$300 is a great deal. Kahrs don't seem to hold their value real well however. Just today I traded a Ruger Govt. Model MKII on a K-9 Elite 98. The gunshop wanted $349 for the Kahr and gave me $325 for the Ruger. I think I got a good deal. The gun came with 2 seven round mags and one 8 rounder that sticks out a bit. It looks like it is in good shape. I checked online and the prices seem to be all over the place.

Kahr value seems to be a geographic thing. Down here in central Florida they are very hard to sell. Up north around Michigan and the Northeast they are very popular. NYPD bought thousands to issue their officers for off duty carry.
I recently aquired a Kahr MK40 Elite98. The man was asking $600 I traded him a Glock and some ammo, we are both tickled. As you can see, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. My Kahr has a trigger far better than a stock Glock, is easier to conceal than my Glocks, it feels more solid than my Glocks but you have to give up something it is a little heavier and it carries three rounds less than a .40 Glock. It has become my 24/7 carry piece.
People who really know, not pseudo experts, will tell you that the stainless Kahr models are an expensive, precision made piece and if you buy one plan on keeping it. I plan on passing mine on to my Grandson and it is so well made, he will probably pass it on to his son.

My biggest regret (gun wise) is selling my MK40 Elite98 :(

I sure miss the little guy :(

(although I do like the AR15 I bought with the money)

Here in Indiana, the Kahrs seem to hold their value quite well... Everytime I go into my favorite shop, I take note of the used Kahrs. The selection is always changing and last time I was in, he had no used guns at all. I've never seen a used Kahr for less than $450 and that was a basic K9 with no night sights.

The poly guns seem to hold their value better around here as well. The list price on the basic P9 is about $45 less than the basic K9 but the used P9s consistantly sell for more than the K9s.

I think I paid $425 shipped for my P9 Covert with Trijicon night sights (from a member on this forum) and the guys in the gunshop offered to buy it from me when it came in just to resell it for profit.

I thought $349 was a pretty good deal for a gunshop. As soon as I picked it up I knew I had to have it. I actually had the Ruger MKII in the truck to take to another shop. They had a S&W M 27-2 with the 8 3/8 barrel for $299. They had previously offered me $300 for the Ruger on another trade that fell through. I already have a 27-2 with 6" barrel, but N-frames are pretty sweet. Can't really get both right now. I have decided that I'm going to get my CCW, I'm 35 and have never needed it yet, but having your permit in Washington makes pistol purchases cash and carry. Nice to have when you are visiting pawn shops in Seattle.

May actually carry the little Kahr, what can people reccomend for a good holster. Leaning towards an inside the waistband type holster. Have never worn one. I have Safariland Kydex for my CZ-85, but that was for IDPA. Would like comfortable, really concealable holster for the Kahr.
