Howdy. I've been looking for a platform with which to try out the 10mm. Tried the Glock but in my hand it represented an ergonomic nightmare. I have stumbled across a lightly used EAA Witness in 10mm with 6 magazines (red followers). The package includes a .38 Super upper with 3 magazines. $550 out the door. Worth it?

On a side note, I have read up on the the Witnesses some and know there is little customer support from EAA. Any other liabilities you want me to know about?

Finally, I am not buying a 10mm to duplicate .40 S&W ballistics. I intend to explore the upper reaches of published load data. Can the Witness handle hot 10mm loads?

Thank you.

The model would help a bit. I have witness match in 40 that i payed 499 out the door and then bought a 9mm upper for 206 to my house so there is a buyable retail price. Barrels can be bought cheap to change with in same basic designs too. !0mm/40 ,9mm/38super and that caliber is also good for the 9x23 to shoot as it is a full support barrel. And mags can be had for 26 each on up. So if the one your looking at is a late model full size steel or match that does sound like it could be a good deal. Other sites for witness are (henningshootsguns) and search eaa witness forums and you will also find a Brain Enos eaa site that is mainly a compeitor site bit very good info there. The eaa guys are ok ,they are slow at getting in some accesores but henning has most of theres and aftermarket stuff covered on his site including his own designs...

For 2 complete guns @ $550 it is a good deal, bonus points if it's an Elite Match or better....

Here is how I feel about EAA.

For 12 years I shot a custom built Kimber in IDPA matches and pretty much always finished in the top three.

I bought an EAA because it was so cheap ($300) I couldn't pass it up. I won 12 straight matches (before I quit counting).

I bought a better EAA (Elite Match) and the string got even better.

I still carry the Kimber, but the EAA Match travels to and from matches in a hardshell pistol case.

I've spent more on upgrades on the Elite Match than most people spend on their guns. My grips alone are machined aluminum, checkered to 30 LPI and cost about $300 to have custom made at a machine shop.

I don't care. I can't miss with this gun and it is my third EAA that is the best competition shooter I've ever owned.

Before I got that first cheap EAA IDPA matches were just fun. Now I find it irritating if I don't win and I don't really even focus on it. I joke with the RO during mag changes.

There is an EAA under the seat of my truck. There is an EAA in my range bag when I go to matches. There is an EAA in my had when I want to show people I can hit what I aim at.

But, there's a Kimber on my hip. I can't help it. It's a barbecue gun...

THe 10mm would depend on whether it has the new style slide.

As for the the .38 super. I'm not sure if they are also having
cracking issues with the Super slides.

CZF:

You mentioned that the OP should buy the Witness if it has the new style slide. Why is this? Also, how can you tell the difference?

Thanks,

-John

I had a Witness 10 mm and I loved the look and feel of it but I had to get rid of it...FTE and FTF at will..customer service is simply non-existent.

Even EAA basically admits that their Witness is not designed to handle full house 10 mm loads but just the "FBI Lite" loads....a ballistic twin of the 40 S&W...so why bother??

I heard that the older "square top" style slides with tougher Wolff springs can handle "real" 10 mm loads...personally I witnessed two cracked slides at the range (the new rounded top slides).

I'm still waiting for the right pistol in this caliber to arrive....I do not like Glocks nor the 1911 style 10 mm out there (Dan Wesson and Kimber)..

SIG, CZ or Beretta.....where are you???

Just wanted to thank everyone who weighed in. I have decided to pass. I am getting enough feedback here and elsewhere that the Witness may not be the 10mm I am looking for. Words like 'cracked slide' do not mesh well with my stated desire to explore the upper limits of 10mm capability. To those of you who expressed some interest in this deal, the pistol and goodies are on consignment at Big Bear Sports here in Great Falls, MT.

Wise choice

To me the EAA Witness, especially ther newer rounded top slide version, cannot be considered a "true" 10 mm Auto pistol. Aside from the horrible Customer Service.

Seems like you jumped to the same conclusion.

I'm still waiting for the "perfect" 10 mm auto to come around...double stack, DA/SA.

Maybe one day, SIG or Beretta will grant that wish....

Any one of the 1911s would be perfect for my needs. Unfortunately I cannot find one of those just laying on the shelf for 550 bills. I hope your wish does get granted but it's hard to imagine Sig or Beretta getting behind what amounts to an enthusiast's cartridge.

I saw a Razor Back (1911 based) for $1060 at Cabela's last month.....I do not think you can find it any cheaper...

A good alternative would be to find an used S&W 1066....strong as tank, very reliable...they should go for around $600...but around here (Seattle) they literally evaporated...I haven't seen one in years....

I'll probably go with the Dan Wesson when funds allow. Here in MT we also had a plethora of 1066s. HAD. They fit me well but I have a 1911 background and to me the S&W safety was just all wrong. I can't get behind DA/SA either (no offense) unless it's in the style of the Witness/CZ-75, etc.
