$475-$525 seems to be about the average on GB these days. A lot will probably depend on just what it is, looks like, and comes with it. They usually came in in a box with a holster and spare mag. The more desirable "shooters" have the added "pin" above the trigger guard in the frame to strengthen things.

I bought one years ago. It came with two magazines and a drop down holster. It was listed as "Very Good" and it was. Doesn't shoot hollow points very well, but it does not fail with ball. It was around $230.00 delivered as I recall. Curio & Relic category. So it would have about doubled in price now. I would hold on to it. Prices on the C&R guns keep going up.

do people still use the Blue Book anymore. I still do, it’s huge

The "old saying" from gun shops

Blue book is only good when we sell stuff, not when buying it!

Look! It says here that it is worth $1k!

Oh that's just a book not what they sell for!

Car dealers, Blue book or Black book!

Well I buy and not sell, but the Blue Book does make my collection look good

Wait until it is your time to unload them, thin the herd, liquidate whatever!

Fun to buy them a pain to sell them.

Maybe I can get on the TV show Hoarders??

VG condition is not something to crow about regarding the P1's. A lot of these in excellent/like-new/refurbished condition came in a few years ago when Germany officially replaced the P1's. Before that, as they withdrew them from service, they inspected and refurbished them (as needed) and put them into storage.

(When they released the P1's as surplus, they also released a ton of the Flecktarn holsters to go with them. The problem is that these holsters only work with the unique 1980's German web gear. At one time, surplus stores had these holsters out the kazoo. They couldn't give them away.)

When buying one, I would hold out for excellent condition, flawless grips, matching numbers, and the reinforcing bolt in the frame. $500 would be a benchmark price for one in that condition.

I’m a give away kindda guy, I have 2 young boys and hopefully they will not unload my guns for a yoga machine or God forbid a Tesla

Does steel frame vs aluminum factor into pricing?
The P1's have an alloy frame. The P38's were steel.

They make/made an adapter for that system that converts them over to the ALICE system. Im sure they are probably still around if you get to looking. They were only a couple of bucks back in the 90's when they were importing that stuff.

Actually, the German web system is pretty good. It's conceptually similar to the Canadian Pattern 82 system, although the components are not interchangeable. It's not clear which country copied which.

There are also two different slide types, one thicker than the other to address the wartime cracking issue. +P is a no-no with all P38 type pistols regardless of the slide or frame pin.

Also best to avoid actually using the decocker as broken hammers arent unknown.

I wasnt enamored with my P1. Terrible trigger, not very accurate, awkward controls, and changing the (waaaay too tall) front sight blade was a pain.

That said, it was cool looking and function was 100% with 115gr fmj.

$600 for a perfect example is about right in my neck of the woods.
