So I know where a new in box 90’s Rossi M 711 is located. It’s for sale. Rubber grips SS finish. Unfluted cyl. Looks 4-5 inch barrel. What’s a fair price to offer the guy? Box papers etc. all there. I do not know much about the Rossi guns

If I didn't really need it... probably too much.

If I did - I might go ahead and grit my teeth and pay. (Pandemic pricing, blah blah blah)

That being said pricing in general does seem to be improving. Before the madness, that's a $400 gun on it's best day in the world IMO. And I only say that because it looks almost untouched. And evidently the stainless were a little less common.

There is/was a police six for 400 but it wasn’t close to me.. I’m torn on this deal. Half of me says get it and other half says pass

I think in todays world $475 for a 971 LNIB is reasonable. I had one...it shot great and I am sorry I parted with it. You can spend on the wood grips later to ease the outlay upfront. Fewer and fewer 971's are going to show up NIB. You won't have anything to be ashamed of if you buy this. Obviously....it wouldn't hurt to ask the seller if he would come down to $445. Worst case, you buy it, you have some fun with it, and something else comes along. You sell the Rossi at $100 loss and in the meantime you have had way more than a $100 worth of fun.

Reliability solid....most everyone who has owned them has been more than pleased. The only issue I am aware of is that one owner reported he had a firing pin break. Not much goes wrong with these Interarms Rossi revolvers. If it's LNIB it's unlikely the seller is moving a "lemon". The 971 was one of Rossi's better offerings. Even most of the folks over on the S&W Forums have favorable things to say.

Just to compare.. used model 64 stainless smiths on GB right now are all well over 500. More like 700-900 asking or buy it now! In 2021 I bought an LEO trade in there for like 430.00. So prices are up for sure. I’m only getting this one due to its early/non Taurus, unfluted and brand new in box unfired. Thanks for all the input!

Plus point here are that it’s stainless, like new, and unfluted. Each of those add a few dollars for most buyers. I would offer the man 425 and negotiate in to the 450 range. Nice gun for the money. Kinda goofy front sight arrangement on Rossi guns but it’s very usable. The 971 is as close as I will ever get to my grail gun which is a 988 which is at least twice the price he’s asking, and realistically isn’t much different except for a fancy barrel.

Yeah, that's a good deal. I owned a 6" that had been shot a lot before I bought it. It was a very solid revolver. Reliable, accurate, nice trigger, etc. Never gave me a lick of trouble. I traded it towards something shiny because I had such a glut of medium-frame 357's and 38's at the time.

You'll be pleased with your purchase. Enjoy it in good health. :)

You know, I was thinking... many would approach this to say what a comparable S&W, Ruger or even Colt would fetch.

But coming the other way... how much MORE would you be willing to pay for this than, say, a brand new RIA 200 (with the understanding that the Rossi .357 is clearly more gun)? Or a (probably) clapped-out Ruger Six priced at $400 that you actually would have a HARDER time finding parts for at this point?

Just a different approach. Seems like a good little deal from that view. And the unfluted cylinder is kind of cool; some might especially like that.

I have learned that this gun is a m711 not a 971. I think that denotes the unfluted cyl. Anyway I’ve got factory wood panels coming for it and would like to start thinking about a holster. Is the square butt Rossi small frame approx the same as K frame sw? Looks like it to me. Holster options might be limited.

....I'm going from memory here since I sold off my 971 over 25 years ago....I believe the Rossi frame is just a little larger than a S&W K, but that most K Frame size holsters fit the Rossi. I think mine rode in a Bianchi Shadow. You might have to order a few off-the-shelf holsters from somewhere that will allow for free returns to see what fits best. Hopefully someone who still owns one will pop in with a definitive answer.

If that were one of Rossi's .44 specials, i'd buy it for $475 in a heartbeat.
That being said....I'd need to look it over first.
The only revolver that I've personally seen come apart during firing was a Rossi .38 that showed a firing pin strike at the very edge of the primer.
