A shop has two used Blackhawks on sale for $259 each. The first is a 6 1/2" blued .32 H&R mag, light wear and little play in the cylinder. The second is a blued .357 magnum, 6 1/2" in like condition. They have little wear and perfect bores & crowns.

The 357 would be a good mate for my Marlin 1894C. Is $259 each a fair price? What should I watch out for in a used Blackhawk? It's been 20 years since I've bought a pistol so any advice is appreciated.

Prices have gone up in the last year in my area. Here in Louisville, those would very good prices. Been looking for a used BH .357 myself but seems like I almost never find the good deals for a decent gun.

The .32 shows as being made only as a convertible by Gun Trader's Guide, 29th edition, page 141. So, does the extra .32-20 cylinder come with it? If so, buy it, buy it now, you will always be able to make a nice profit on that gun. If not, negotiate the price downward, you have a sound argument that it's not worth his asking price without the additional cylinder.

The .357 is a fair asking price.

Well, I bought the .357 but the law only lets me buy one handgun every 30 days. I hope that .32 Blackhawk is there next month. The 32 did not have the extra cylinder or a case. But thanks for the tip for negotiating. The 357 in a New Model with the gray plastic Ruger case.

Getting the 357's pin back in after removal of the cylinder was a PITA. It is in great shape though. Other area stores had used Blackhawks for $400. So, I ran back this one.

In 10 days my 1894C will have a new companion. :D

The .32 is definitely worth it whether it's a Blackhawk or a Single-Six as both are limited production and pretty well sought after. I'd go put a couple bucks on it to hold it until your 30 days is up. If you decide you don't want it, let me know where it is and I'll go get it.

I just bought a .357/9mm Convertible New Model Blackhawk 6.5" Blued made in 1987. I think I paid 350 IIRC. I checked on it and it was a very good deal. The convertible cylinder adds about 50 dollars of value to the gun. 290-300 dollars is a fair deal on a regular Blackhawk, 259 is a very good deal.

Family members and I sold three last year at gun shows in .44 mag for between $300 and $350 (pareing down the 'family vault' :) ) so that is a very good price, at least around NE Florida. Nice guns and Great on hogs, just ended up with a few too many bargains over the decades...

Btw, I had a lot of trouble with that pin at first myself. It gets much easier to take the pin in and out. One quick trick that helped me....

1) Make sure the base pin is pulled out.
2) Turn the revolver on its side with the loading gate facing up.
3) Place the cylinder in the cylinder area.
4) Slowly and gently rotate the cylinder a few times to seat/align it.
5) Now try pushing the pin in.
6) If it gives you a little trouble gently wiggle the cylinder side to side in the
cylinder area. Mine usually goes in 5 seconds of doing all of this.

When you clean the gun make sure you wipe down the base pin and scrub the inside of the cylinder where the base pin goes with a lightly oiled q-tip. If you do not, and shoot many heavy .38 Specials or .357 Magnums, the cylinder will start to bind.

Rush back and put the .32 model on layaway. Then you don't have to worry about it selling.

.32 H&R

If you dont want the .32 then send me the phone # for where its at. If you do buy it and dont like it, I'll buy it from you for what you paid. Serious. provided the info you gave is accurate ofcourse

when putting the pin back in, dont force it!!

Place the cylinder back in the frame close loading gate gently with barrel pointing straight up, put the pin in, wiggle the cylinder very slightly and the pin, when the holes in the cylinder and frame are lined up, will drop right in.

If you need to use force the holes in the cylinder and frame are not lined up!!
